Hair dye mishap. Help!

I've dyed my hair today for the first time in years using Garnier Nutrisse. it's Supposed to have done my dark brown hair a reddish colour. only it hasn't. I now have patches of reddish hair and the rest is my normal dark brown. Completely unchanged. It's not exactly the look I was going for. How can I fix this?

DO NOT put any more dye on top

either get some dye remover/correcter stuff, or wash vigorously and frequently with head & shoulders, or get yerself to a hairdressers asap

MerryMarigold · 11/04/2011 16:46

Can you dye it again with something else. How did this happen. Did you comb it through? I would dye back to a dark brown, but not sure how long you have to leave it before redying it. You may have to put up with it for a couple of days. I dye my dark brown/ black/ white hair every month, but never used that brand or had any problems. I use Nice n Easy or L'Oreal Preference. I start at the routes and work outwards rather than 'blobbing' it on.

Ermmm...that'll be 'roots' then!

TragicallyHip · 11/04/2011 16:49

Seeing as you haven't dyed it in years you will be ok to dye it again. Just wait a few days.

How noticeable is it?

QueenofDreams · 11/04/2011 16:50

started at the roots as directed in the instructions, then worked it through all my hair. Used the entire bottle as per instructions. It's like the only part that's dyed properly is along my parting where I put the dye first. Everywhere else it's not done as it should have.
Can't afford to go to hairdressers. Fecking dye.

Next time, try and comb through as well...(though I never bother with that)

QueenofDreams · 11/04/2011 16:52

It's not the worst I've ever seen. But in good light it will be very noticeable.

It's quite easy to miss patches when you think it's covered. I have done it a few times!

Just re-dye in a few days and comb through.

TheVisitor · 11/04/2011 16:55

That John Frieda foam stuff is supposed to be good. Is your hair quite long? If so, you probably needed 2 bottles of the stuff.

QueenofDreams · 11/04/2011 16:58

no hair isn't very long, not even shoulder length

Can I ask what shampoo and conditioner you use? Some products contain a lot of silicon which builds up on the hair and the dye literally cannot penetrate (that would explain to me why it has taken on the roots and not the midlength and ends which should be more porous).

mumtoted · 11/04/2011 18:43

A hairdresser dyeing virgin hair would do mid lengths and ends first, roots last, to avoid the bright roots. Its heat from the head that makes it take more quickly at the roots.

QueenofDreams · 14/04/2011 07:10

saggy just using a tesco own shampoo. no conditioner.

I used nutrisse at the weekend. It has been great in the past.

Aside from dying my towel (after I had rinsed repeatedly) and being MEGA drippy it has now all washed out!!!! Leaving my grey buts highly visible again!
I used a whole bottle and have a very short crop style so no danger if missing bits/ not enough dye. I think they must have messed with the formula since last tine I used it.

QueenofDreams · 14/04/2011 10:13

Oh so it's not just me then! DP said 'you must have done it wrong then' when I showed him Hmm

I've used Nutrisse loads in the past, but last time, it didn't take on my hair properly. It was yellow and still had grey roots. I re-did it with Nice n Easy a couple of days later.
It's still not really how it should be, but not that bad so I'm putting up with it for a few weeks as I didn't want to yes more dye after doing in twice in three days.
Not sure Ill be buying nutrisse again.

I've just used the colour b4 hair dye remover and have to say. I am amazed. I had a mishap with a bottle of hair colour, Nice and easy to be exact. I envisaged a lovely caramel shade on my hair instead got orange and even oranger roots. I then proceeded to try and put a dark over the top.

I ummed and ahhed about using this new product and mid way through when I had very yellow/orange hair, I was very worried, but turned out lovely when I had put a toner on and not dry at all. Amazing stuff, really does work, but be prepared to put a toner on.

Lots of good reviews on youtube.
