A "diamonds & pearls" wedding

I am going to a wedding in July which is described as celebrating everything "bling". The "theme" is diamonds and pearls and the women have been asked to dress with this in mind.

What would you wear? I am a 12, 34F, tall ish with good legs and mummy tummy. I will have a tan. Have long brown hair. Budget up to £300 but don't want to buy anything I won't ever wear again and diamonds and pearls aren't really my thing.

I bought this for a wedding last year and have only worn it once. Have other dresses but nothing that strikes me as bling. My dp is known as "Pearly King" by his work colleagues for having such a London accent so that could sort his outfit Grin.

What do people expect you to wear when they theme their weddings like this. Do I have to be all blingy or is it optional?

The Reiss dress is beautiful. How about wearing that again, with diamond and pearl jewellery (I was think pearl bracelet, sparkly clip in hair, maybe savorski (sorry, not sure how to spell that) crystal or similar), just to 'bling' it up, and some nice heels. It's not my thing either, so I would go for the classy look with jewellery/ accessories to meet the theme. Plenty of sparkly clutch bags in the shops right now.

Thanks Mushrooms. My only fear is that sparkly stuff either costs a fortune or imo, looks really cheap and naff. I have these shoes in the creamy colour and worry that cheap sparkly bits will cheapen the dress and shoes iyswim. Sparkly clutches hey, I'll have a look. Thanks!

You can get good quality cheapish sparkly stuff. Not Claire's accessories but scout around eBay, vintage places, charity shops etc. You can get removable sparkly clips for shoes as well.

Do you have any sparkly jewellery at all?

When did weddings start having themes? Sounds like a bridezilla might be involved. You need to wear what you're comfortable in, and if bling's not your thing, then just wear what you want. I'm sure you'll look fab.

I like these shoes and they suggest they're sparkly.

I have small diamond earrings but sparkly isn't really my style. Vintage and charity is a great idea - thank you!

I have a lovely (real) pearl bracelet that was about £40. Monsoon bridal section had some nice sparkly bags last time I looked (few months back though). LOVE the HoH shoes!!

Would second the idea of vintage sparkle if you're worried about things looking cheap. Have you ever looked at Etsy? Some gems to be found on there for vintage. Weddings section jewellery worth a look too.

Can't you wear something very discreet but that suits the invitation.

You don't have to go all out diamonds and pearls but perhaps just a few hints at it....

I think that dress would work :)

I design and make Swarovski crystal and pearl jewellery, if you give me an idea of your budget I could knock up something unique and hugh quality that you'd either be able to wear again .. or if you want something just for the party you could give me an idea of what your limit would be and maybe I could make you something to that budget and you could rehome it to Oxfam afterwards, so the excess would be covered by my "making sure the business makes the world a better place" budget :)

Ask round friends and family, lots of people have a set of bling to wear with Christmas party outfits they don't need in the summer.

Large dept stores often have better quality bling.

I have earrings and a necklace from Heavenly necklaces which look pretty realistic, and I've had a lot of compliments on them.

But that sort of themed wedding is incredibly naff imo
