Frazzled hair. Chop or not?

I had my hair bleached a year ago.

I decided to go cone/fate free a few months ago and have been washing (almost daily) with other conditioner then using a leave-in.

My hair is in dreadful condition. It's incredibly dry and strawlike and all the ends have split quite far up from the tips) and I just don't know what to do with it.

I've been alternating between olive and coconut oil usage (left in for 20/30 minutes after washing) as I believed these would help.

My hair's just below shoulder length. I am of mixed race so my hair's pretty curly/frizzy. I fear a short chop would look ridiculous as I have quite a round face...

Anyone with any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing will fix split ends so the best thing to do would be to have your hair cut and then keep up with a good conditioning routine.

I would have a consultation with a hairdresser about what style will suit your face shape and take it from there. You can always grow it again but it will be in better condition.

As a last resort, you can always try a protein treatment, such as this one or this one. You will need a clarifying shampoo beforehand and a rich, cone free conditioner afterwards. It won't repair split ends but should improve the condition of your hair and prevent more damage. It is a hassle, but worth it in my experience as it makes a huge difference to the condition of my highlighted hair. (But my hair-type is very different to yours, fine and naturally medium-blonde.)

Having said all that, in the long run a cut is the only way to get rid of the split ends.

Thanks for the replies.

Will have to try find an afro caribbean hairdresser, see what they recommend for my birdnesty hair and hope they don't suggest a too-short cut.
