What's the uniform in your area?

...I noticed it today on my way to the doc's surgery (ill with flu, so shrouded in winter coat and blinking into the sunshine like a mole).

Birkenstocks, leggings and a tunic top. Sort of floaty, brightly coloured, suspiciously Monsoon-looking tunic tops. Maybe a few Per Una monstrosities, even. And yes, bums were generally well covered. Long black leggings. Almost all had white or beige Birkies on.

Practically every 30-40 something woman I passed in the street had this uniform on. At least half a dozen.

I swear it didn't exist last year (?). I think leggings have replaced linen trousers / culottes as summery mum wear.

cyril you describe perfectly the mummy uniforms One: where I work and Two: where I live (north and east parts of the same town). Lentil-weaver style (ahem) is also prevalent throughout.

BlackSwan · 08/04/2011 12:34

Very much a mix where I live. I only ever notice when people dress very badly or very well. Not much of the latter...

Lipstickgal · 08/04/2011 12:49

Jeans ,(yawn) fleeces, those clunky beige sole boots that are mock CAts I think. Bob haircut no make up. On a chilly day the parka is wanged out. It's a decade or more behind.......a few droopy waterfallish tops have been in evidence too of late. I am the only mum with short hair who wears Birkenstocks and maxi's but then I'm not a follower just an observer.

Rannaldini · 08/04/2011 12:57

one inch make up
orange tan
dreadful home dye job and often disgusting rat extensions

very often dressed in black for a summery day
thick legs covered in orange fake tan nekkid with calf length boots
short tight skirt
large blouson top

this outfit, make up and hair will be worn by every size of girl
often see one size 8 standing beside friend size 22 wearing the, looks to be wearing the exact same outfit

Mariefromstmoritz - do you live in Dubai or is it a coincidence because it's same here

MarieFromStMoritz · 08/04/2011 13:48

Hey cocorouge, yes I'm in Dubai Grin

carlywurly · 08/04/2011 13:54

Virtually every other mum in our playground was wearing converse this morning. Me included. We must have represented their entire range Grin

So dress code atm seems to be - casual tunic top/ floaty blouse with slim fit jeans and converse. Smattering of joules thrown in, and a helly hansen waterproof for rainy days.

gramercy · 08/04/2011 13:55

White Stuff rules the roost here, along with waterfall cardigans. And I've seen about 15 people carrying one of the bags they gave away in Cheesy Living magazine.

ExpatAgain · 08/04/2011 14:14

flipflops/barefoot with GOOD pedicure, good linen/silk/cotton shorts/skirt/dress with BIG shades/bag/phone/4x4

PortBlackSandwitch · 08/04/2011 14:18

Fleece, jeans, black boots, no make up - really really dull...seriously i can think of no one in the village who dresses remotely smart (remote being the word)...

We have quite a few jodhpur-wearers too.

Bratfink · 08/04/2011 14:25

I have just seen not one, but two, women, in separate instances, in bras! Not bra tops! Just bras. In town! One was slim with a large England tattoo. One was not. That?s Swindon for you. It may not be the uniform, or even typical, but I think I was the only one at all perturbed

Footwear: converse, fitflops, birkies, ballerinas
Jeans - mainly bootleg and skinnies
varying tops and tunics and dresses top half
leggings

I imagine quite typical of most of the country?

Despite recent threads, linen trousers still popular here too.

Aren't leggings terrilby "hot" in this weather- I mean they don't exactly keep your fango cool, do they?

Gingefringe · 08/04/2011 17:11

The Colonel Gadaffi look sounds interesting. What's that then??

thisishowifeel · 08/04/2011 19:10

Ginge, shapeless sacking, often with a kind of draw string arrangement around the mid calf. Generally in many, many layers, and only ever in grey and brown. Lovely. :)

I don't know why the shops in this village sell this stuff, and am at a complete loss to understand why anyone would wear it. And it costs an absolute fortune! Tourists visit the posh shops here from other places too. I personally am far too intimidated to even go into these shops, even though the owner of one of them is a friend, (of the playground variety).

I would try and post piccies, but I would out myself, 'cos I've never seen it anywhere else. :)

lololizzy · 08/04/2011 19:18

the town is completely divided. There are stores that you would see in the West End and then there's the Primark and TK Maxxx end. This represents the mix of female shoppers. Pretty much is divided between Boden yummy mummies and then the fake Uggs and tracky bottoms brigade. I don't fit into either category so am something of an outsider (well i am, havent been here long)

CaptainNancy · 09/04/2011 09:14

I want to know where on earth rannaldini lives! Tres bizzarre!

Its just a real mix here.

croydon facelifts and fake bake dreadful dreadful leggings with bad asda tops with bling and fake uggs with knitted bits - bleurgh

we have three pairs of fake tits just in the infant playground and every other mummy seems to have fake eyelashes....

Bunbaker · 09/04/2011 09:39

I wouldn't know how to recognise Boden or White Stuff. What is so special about them? I keep seeing their names on here.
