Thread vein removal

Anyone done it with IPL? I had it done a couple of years ago with electrolysis and after a couple of days scabbing - the veins had gone. £20 - job done.

Now they have come back - more widespread but much finer and not as noticeable - so I read on internet that IPL gets much better results.

So £65 later - I got them done today. She did say it could take up to 4 treatments!!! £65 x 4 -eek!! And I have to say - I can't really notice a difference so far......... grr. Do I perservere or go back to electrolysis??

I had this, it worked to some extent on some very large ones, but definetly wasn't worth the money and they are coming back!

Iloveshoes001 · 06/04/2011 20:36

I did it and it took 5 treatments BUT it worked completely. Everything gone and skin looks 10 years younger... (but man was I ugly during as it zapped all my freckles too making them black for a week!)

TracyK · 06/04/2011 22:09

Iloveshoes - did you get just certain areas done - or the whole face?

I did the whole face. I only had a couple of thread veins under 1 eye but because I'm freckly they told me they had to do the lot or I'd have a pale freckle free patch. Probably robbed me blind but I have to say I now have 90% less freckles, no thread veins, no age spots and I look 10 years younger so money well spent.

mumtoted · 08/04/2011 18:51

Where did you have it done Iloveshoes?

rosie17 · 08/04/2011 19:00

Has anyone had the backs of their legs done. If so what was it successful?

Iloveshoes001 · 08/04/2011 19:42

Transform in Bowden, Cheshire. It was expensive!

TracyK · 09/04/2011 12:31

How long in between sessions did you have it done? And is it worth waiting till after the summer?

Was it sore - cos she only zapped me about 6 times - and it was kind of sore - don't know if I could stand for getting it done all over the face with hundreds of zaps.

She did tell me the veins would get worse before they got better and she was right! They are defo more noticeable since I've had them done. I don't know whether to give up or persevere and hope they improve.

4 weeks between sessions and yes it bloody killed! Like being slapped really hard with an elastic band at the time and then 2 or 3 hours of burning afterwards. I kept aloe vera in the fridge and slapped that on when I got home which took most of the sting out of it. The next day all the blemishes (veins, darkest freckles, age spots started to darken and within about 3 days they were black... (VERY attractive NOT) then about a week after that they started to fall off with a gentle exfoliate.

The last session they turned up the power an extra notch and it was bad. The previous times it was probably about 20% of my face (just the darkest freckles), the last time it did the lot. My face was swollen for 48 hours and covered in blackish purple freckles for 2 weeks. BUT they eventually all fell off and ny skin was perfect underneath.

If I'd known it would be that bad I would have told them not to go that high, but in the end it did no harm.

DEFINITELY do it when you skin is untanned and bear in mind that your skin will be more sensitive and likely to develop agespots and freckles afterwards so it's factory 35-50 forever. Far better to do it when your face is pale and there is at least 3 months before it's going to get exposed to sunshine.

If it's just some light threadveins and you don;t have freckles than it will be a lot easier, but make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing because it's nasty kit and an amateur could very easily scar you for life!

TracyK · 09/04/2011 18:25

Argh - I was hoping you were going to say that they did it a different way for the whole face ie not as sore!

Does that mean that if I only have my cheeks done - they will be all young skin and the rest of my face will look daft??

Sadly, it's the same and it SMARTS!!!

It all depends on your face (and bottom line, I'm no expert). I had freckles everywhere so they had to do the lot as it removes any darker areas and that would have left me with no tgread vein and an unfortunate freckle free patch, but I only had light freckles on my forehead so I only did that twice, after which I was freckle free so it would have been pointless as there was nothing for the laser too "attack". Most of my freckles were across my cheekbones and a few larger ones which were more age spotty around my chin. They all went (hence the younger look), and now a year later I just have a light dusting of freckles across my cheeks which have come back after a holiday in Mexico. I'm quite pleased. After 40 odd years with freckles, I looked a bit odd to myself without any. Smile

A friend of mind had her cheeks only done because she had lots of little thread veins giving her permanently rosy cheeks, and they went really quickly. The rest of her face was classic English (cream and freckle free) and now it all just blends together.

Don't do more than you need for goodness sake and make sure you use someone reputable and take their advice. Your face is not soomething to be messing with.

I don't think there's much chance of me doing too much - big wimp from pain! Did it do anything for the texture of your skin - ie its plumpness? That's what I find diminishing fairly quickly these days - would like something to add the collagen back in and I've seen things like Fraxel lasers are sposed to replump up your skin.
Might be as sore though!

Not being the skinniest woman on the planet lack of plumpness is not something I suffer from (anywhere!!! Grin) so can't help you there. For me it was all about evening out the skintone and getting rid of the thread vein under one eye. They did do some funky radio frequency thing that made you produce new collagen and tightened everything up. Meant to be great for slim but cellulity thighs and saggy jaws and crows feet AND better yet it's painless (just warm like a hit stone massage). Thanks to my plumpness, not for me, but might be worth asking about...

Iloveshoes001 · 13/04/2011 11:22

Hey TraceyK. Just a thought. The girl who did my trwatments at Transform has now set up on her own. She doesn't have the kit for the IPL but she does do the radio frequency stuff which tighens skin and all sorts of other treatments. Won;t solve the thread vein but will do the rest and she's REALLY good and charges considerably less than transform. No idea where in the country you are, but this is her Facebook page. Her name's Helima.
