It is becoming the bane of my life. It is extremely thick, coarse and wiry. I have tried most products you can buy from boots and some aveda products too but nothing makes much difference. Some even make it worse. Any advice would be very welcome.

You sound like a good candidate for a "brazillian blowdry" or keratin treatment this bad boy and you would probably do well with Moroccan Oil as well this stuff

Do both and I promise you wont have wiry frizzy har any more!

wow. They look brilliant. I am so tired of looking like i've been dragged through a hedge backwards!

My hair is the same and the keratin blow dry transformed it into shiny swishy marvellousness! I highly recommend it.

Expensive but it lasts about 5 months and soooo worth it.

Your hair sounds beautiful now - i am very jealous Has anyone tried the living proof no frizz stuff? It's expensive but does it work?

I'd recommend Kerastase shampoo and conditioner - again expensive but used to be the only thing that would smooth my hair out.

OR - go on the pill (Yasmin) which transformed mine from course/wavy into smooth, straight and flat. Have stopped taking it and the frizz is growing back through. Bizarre.

fun12 · 06/04/2011 12:05

how odd. Husband has had the snip though! Yes my mum was singing kerastases praises the other day - but her hair is very different to mine.

I tried kerastase and didn't make any difference to the frizz....seriously considering the brazilian blow dry, but concerned at cost....my hairdresser who comes to my house charges £160.....!!!!

sshnapps · 06/04/2011 12:55

do you blow dry it? if you do you need to make sure your hairdryer is ionic, my hairdresser recommends a Parlux 3500 supercompact ionic.

fun12 · 06/04/2011 13:02

no, i just let it air dry.

matbe should try blow drying with some serum in first. because of all my grey has. mine has got more coarse over the years, i now have a weekly blow dry, sleek hair for 4 days. if it dries narurally it looks like i have a frizzy, wavy perm.

PartyHands · 06/04/2011 13:56

It's the bane of my life too and I resort to blow dries quite often. I have had enough after twenty years of spending hours with the hairdryer and a fortune on various crap that never works. I would never admit to this in real life BUT I can go a week after one as my hair is that dry. Then I top up with the straighteners.

Moroccan Hair Oil didn't work that well for me, particularly considering the price. I wouldn't bother. But my hair is also really thick so if your hair is just frizzy and not super thick, you might have more luck.

I have also had those Brazilian blow dries. You can get them near me for £95. I suspect these may not be as good as the £160 ones - it made SOME difference to my hair. But not as good as the blow dries so probably on balance I won't go again. They say it helps if you 'build them up' but they would, wouldn't they?

Do you highlight your hair? I do, which also makes it dry. I am cutting back on that as well, covering the grey with the tint instead.

One thing I have had some success with is hair products for Afro Caribbean hair. I use olive oil based products from a range which is supposedly designed for this hair type. It makes some difference. The olive oil based products are not so expensive either, so if something doesn't work it doesn't hurt so much!

SOme Indian friends also recommended the hair oil they use too but I didn't want to try this as I have highlights and it said on the bottle that it may affect the colour (was worried about going green!) If you have dark hair you could consider these products too - I could try to dig out the bottle.

Keratase is a decent shampoo.

Hard water makes the frizz worse as well.

can you tell I've thought loads about this.

fun12 · 06/04/2011 14:23

Yours sounds just like mine. Really thick with greys sprouting through which make it even coarser so i've had it highlighted which makes it more frizzy! Ahh!!!

Hm. I get on quite well with John Frieda FrizzEase Curl Around daily shampoo and conditioner. Have to say the conditioner seems to be the thing that does the trick. I comb it through, leave it for a few mins then rinse. There's also another Frizz-Ease product called "Secret Agent" which I smooth over my hair and don't rinse out. I let my hair dry naturally and it keeps a good curl - if I blow dry it it just turns to straw.

Mind you, if I run out of "Secret Agent" I smooth on any old thing - a little more conditioner, face moisturiser - without rinsing, and they all seem to do some good!

cruelladepoppins · 06/04/2011 14:50

Although, I can't give you any advice if you want to have smooth, glossy hair - I got that once from the hairdresser but it somehow looked funny on me!

HarrietPartyHands · 06/04/2011 15:20

Yes, exactly the same. It seriously drives me mad. I use a junior at the hair salon so you can get away with a blowdry in £teens. It is worth it for me, if only for hte pick me up. (How sad is that.)

AlfalfaMum · 06/04/2011 15:31

Dark and Lovely is a brand of hair products for Afro-Caribbean type hair, but it's very good on any curly frizz-prone hair. I use some of the kids range on DD1 and it's pretty good. It's quite cheap - a few pounds - and Boots stock it.
