Stylish Slapples?

I guess I'm what you would call a slim (ish) apple shape - I'm 5'6",size 12, boobs (32F), good legs, ok arms, no waist or hips whatsoever and a stupid flat bum.

Tunics or dresses with leggings tend to suit me, or dresses like this www.warehouse.co.uk/botanical-daisy-print-dress/Dresses/warehouse/fcp-product/303999.

Jeans are an issue as they tend to highlight the fact I have no arse.

Any stylish apples out there willing to share top tips?

Am a fully paid up Granny Smith. Almost identical shape to you except not the boobs Envy . Have a huge issue with jeans and end up in leggings or treggings most of the time. Might as well show off a good pair of pins!

How do you make it look like you have a waist? I end up ignoring the fact all together and wearing tunics etc but it's a pain if I want to not look pregnant!

Very into high heels for going out, tight jeans/ treggings , stilletoes and a funky shirt is my look at the moment. Although I probably look more tranny than vamp!

Looks like it's just you and me Oranges!

Sometimes I wear a wide belt with a tunic, under the misguided impression that it will give me a waist. Which it doesn't. So I go without, and get the is-she-or-isn't-she looks. I find that tunics have to be just the right size too - too big and you look pregnant, too small and you look, er, pregnant. I aim for the elusive 'skimming'!

I also go for 50s style dresses with a full-ish skirt, as the fullness of the skirt fools people into thinking you have a waist. But these have to be worn with heels to give you height and balance everything out, so not a day time look for me.

Where do you get your tight jeans from? I've steered clear up until now, thinking that they wouldn't flatter, but I'm intrigued! Do you wear quite a long shirt with them?

M and S! I buy their treggings, here and also their jeans sometimes but they are more hit and miss. I often wear a floaty shirt with, which is quite sexy (Ithink!)

Where do you get your dresses from? Am totally lost on the whole 50s thing. I'd love to wear them but worry my non-waist would make the sizing tricky.

BTW Is the apple thing a westcountry gene? Am a Somerset girl too, poss too much cider in my youth!

SomersetBelle · 07/04/2011 07:04

I reckon it probably is! I drank too much cider too until I got all sophisticated. And the fact that it made me puke (probably more down to over consumption than the cider) Grin Back on it now though, tis lovely!

Dresses - I've got them in the past from Warehouse, M&S, New Look, Kew and Phase Eight. They don't have to be strictly 50s, just dresses with a fitted top (not high neckline) and flaring from the waist to a full skirt, hitting just above the knee. Tea dresses, which are often cut fairly straight up and down, or cut to fit hourglass figures, don't suit me at all. I'll look later when I've got a bit more time and do some links for you.

Halterneck dresses seem to work well on me too. Again, with a full-ish skirt. The best are ones with a tie waist, so you can hoik (sp?) yourself in as much as possible, rather than a neat fitted waist, as I can never get the right size. New Look have done some great ones in the past.

I'm quite apple shaped and I do a lot of tight ish jeans/ short straight skirt to show legs, with layered tops- eg soft shirt under fitted cardi, t shirt and tank top, to hide tummy without looking pregnant. Also have a long body so layers at waist break it up. Leggings and tunics are great on my legs, but I do always think I look 6 months gone!

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 07/04/2011 19:15

Hmm, some lovely dresses there. I especially like the peacocks one with birds on. It's in my (non-existent) budget! Also adore the coral Warehouse dress, is very sexy, just need somewhere to wear it now.
Think I might get that peacocks dress tho. Thank you so much, I would never have braved that without your help.

SomersetBelle · 07/04/2011 19:44

It's a pleasure! Let me know what it looks like on. I like it too - Peacocks seem to have some lovely dresses at the moment.

talkingnonsense - do you go for low slung jeans and skirts or higher waisted? I always find low slung suit my non-bum better, but then there's usually a bit of muffin top. If I go higher waisted they are huge at the hips.
