Help - black tie event and I don't want to look like frump-a-mum for one night

I am going to a big black tie event and I haven't been to anything like this in 10 years. It's in a few weeks time. It's a fairly young and trendy event (uh oh just said trendy, showing age already)... I haven't ANYTHING posh that fits me or that has been out of the wardrobe for five years, and even if it did it is probably hopelessly dated. I have no idea.

If anyone is more used to going to this sort of event what on earth are people wearing to black tie events these days - is it still the full satin floor length number or something? What is fashionable? What would YOU wear? I'm thinking sleeves due to slightly fat upper arms but is that ruling out looking fashionable? I would so like to look vaguely fashionable for one night.

I'm 36 and a 12-14, 5 foot 7ish, so if you're of a similar build especially I'd appreciate any outfit tips. Many many thanks.

I have fallen in love with that twinkle anglomania drape one - I'm just toying with whether I can put off my car's service so I can buy it now, I want it very very very badly. I'll need to try it on - I'd be gutted if my arse looks huge in it although I do have magic pants.

I have a large but slim plain red patent leather clutch which I may use, and the shoes will have to come in under 50 quid now else the children won't eat next month.

I had the Isabella Oliver Satin bow dress which I wore to weddings and christenings for about three years even when not pregnant - this one looks similarly versatile.

I have found sparkly here

half price

Anglomania sizing is generous so it should be fine

geordieminx · 05/04/2011 22:05

medium

Oh blimey geordieminx that's a bargain! if it was the medium I'd have clicked and bought it but small just can't fit a 12-14 can it? My bum is more towards the 14?

Second one is medium. But more pinky.

I think they are a generous fit.

Chocolat may come back and verify.

I think it would be fine.... ITS HALF PRICE, at half price I wouldn't care what my arse looked liked :-)
