Are crocs ok for children? And is there a cheaper alternative?

Just wondering really. Have beach holiday planned this summer, also think crocs would be useful for kids in the garden. But was a bit shocked at the price of them. Any cheap copies?

Thanks

we all started off with the fake ones to see if we wore them and we did - so now have the real thing, i found the tred on the soles of the fake ones wore down quickly, but the real ones still look like new, they wash up nicely.

I only wear mine around the house and garden, but take them on hols for around the pool, i do stay in private villas so no one can see me. Think they are great for the kids.

bluerodeo · 05/04/2011 17:13

crocs have been around for years for kids! yes, they are great for holidays and beaches

woopsidaisy · 05/04/2011 17:40

I got two pairs for a tenner in Sainsburys last year. They are still going.

moragbellingham · 05/04/2011 17:44

Tesco/Asda/Sains etc. They all do a cheap version!
We always seem to lose one so don't mind buying a couple of pairs to start with.
Ikea do a version too but not sure about children's ones.

AnonymousBird · 05/04/2011 20:11

I hate crocs, but my children adore them and live in them from April to October. I buy them on ebay second hand for a few quid and have never been let down.

jimmycarr · 05/04/2011 20:17

Cheap ones aren't worth it ime. My dd has Crocs for the beach/garden every summer and they are brilliant. Sports Direct normally do genuine kid's Crocs for around £5 every year. Keep a look out!

sazm · 05/04/2011 21:17

was just going to suggest sports direct,we got 4 pairs last yr for £5 each, the kids wore them the whole summer, everyday all day,and they still look good and will do this yr,they are well worth the full price too.
mine were full price,i've wore them for 3 years and they still have plenty life in them,
sports direct have them for £10 a pair atm,i just got my youngest cool batman ones for £9.99 in tkmaxx

womma · 05/04/2011 21:28

Jojo maman bebe (what a stupid name) do great copies of Crocs, two pairs for £15 and you can get free p&p if you buy them through the mumsnet offer thingy.

Figgyrolls · 05/04/2011 21:29

on sports direct website some are £5 today

nobodyimportant · 05/04/2011 21:31

Real ones last much longer than the fakes IME. You can get 2 years out of them as they're designed to be worn big. I got them cheap from Sports Direct last year. Well worth it! The kids love them.

Tillyscoutsmum · 05/04/2011 21:33

Cheap ones gave dd blisters. We also got them from Sports Direct website for £5. I got ones for this year as well. They are pretty much all dd wears in the summer.

naturelover · 05/04/2011 21:45

Thanks everyone. I'll keep an eye on Sports Direct. Today they don't have the sizes I need.

Crocs are not ok for anyone

tryingtoleave · 06/04/2011 04:04

Agree with lostlady - what is wrong with a pair of sandals?

Why can I not mention another brand which are very similar to crocs and much cheaper? I did not put any links and I am not selling any. I just did a bit of research when I was looking for a cheaper alternative to crocs and the brand I mentioned was the best of what I found. Crocs did not invent these style of shoes they just market them well. I don't care about mentioning what the other brand is but surley it should be ok to say that I have shoes very similar to crocs and that I paid less than £10 for?

dexter73 · 28/03/2012 17:08

It's probably because you have posted on multiple threads about the other brand of crocs so it looks like you are advertising. One mention is enough.

I bought my DS some crocs (real ones) from Costco and they only cost £11. They're still a bit big so haven't tried them yet.

startail · 28/03/2012 18:59

My two live in Crocs, walked miles and miles round Disney in them, no blisters.

After that holiday I've never tried cheap ones they worked so well. (also real ones easier to get here, sizing is strange you need to try them on)

startail · 28/03/2012 19:02

I can't see why poster can't post alternative unless MN know they work for the company. Style and beauty post brand names all the timeConfused

I was told in a shoe shop, selling Crocs, that podiatrists do not think Crocs are great for children's feet. I was told they are too wide for the majority of children and that they don't provide sufficient support for growing feet. They felt they were fine for a trip to the beach or the pool or for a play in the garden but not for all day every day wear.

I would be interested to hear what podiatrists on here felt.

I have bought dd the Sketchers equivalent in the past as they are narrower and more supportive. I don't know if they still make them though.

We have also bought emergency copies from Primark and they did the job but all we really needed them for was going to and from the pool.

FoofFighter · 28/03/2012 19:08

on year old threads though? Wink

RobinSparkles · 28/03/2012 19:13

My DD1 has Polliwalks. They are quite cute for children.

They have different animal styles and different prints on the bottom. My DD has the ladybug ones and they have ladybirds on the bottom and when she walks in the sand it looks like a trail of ladybirds. The duck ones have duck footprints on the bottom so it looks like a duck has left a trail of footprints when they walk in sand/mud.

They are very similar to crocs from Sports direct.

Oh bugger! I didn't see that this was an old thread!
