Mine were done on the NHS, but if you ask your GP nicely they will often refer you to a consultant to get advice on places / people they recommend and how much it should cost.

bristolcities · 03/04/2011 13:54

Honeydragon do you mind me asking how you qualify for NHS boob job?

I'm 23 and my are enormous and hang very low (tmi sorry) due to wait loss. They give me bad back pain and I'm pretty gutted about them.

Honeydragon · 03/04/2011 20:21

The hard part is getting past a GP. Mine said I had no chance. I said I had to do something as I was in physical pain and comments were getting to me. i said I understood that it was expensive and he did not consider me a candidate but intended to do something regardless so could he request a appointment with a consultant so I could discuss what to ask for, safety issues and possible places to go.

Met the consultant, told him the same things and he booked me straight in with the NHS, he said he was often horrified at people he saw privately who'd been told by adamant Gp's that they would not qualify for NHS help Sad. Not really the GPs fault as they have to follow protocol sent to them.

Your age etc, and physical pain would make you qualify Smile just get that consultant appointment.

Thank you. I might have to build my self up to it but I can't carry on like this for much longer. X

Honeydragon · 03/04/2011 22:51

I do know exactly how you feel, for me it was much the same, yet once I had it done (mine was bilateral one 3 cup sizes bigger than the other) I wondered why I'd left it so long. I am much happier with a few scars, than I was when I was big. And now you have to really look to see the scars ..... and I'm still breastfeeding dd at 15 months too Smile as the ducts were left intact.

I have 3 friends who had breast reductions on the NHS

they have nothing but good stories to tell

scotsgirl23 · 03/04/2011 23:07

Bristolcities my best friend had a reduction on the NHS (at 22) - basically told GP how depressed they made her, how low her self esteem was as a result, back pain, sore shoulders etc

she was referred to an NHS consultant but her op was actually done at a private Spire hospital

bristolcities · 03/04/2011 23:13

Thank you all. I'm am pretty depressed about it and sick of either having a bad back or sleeping in an uncomfortable bra to avoid it.

I also suffer from bad kidneys and the back ache from my breasts sometimes makes makes the pain hard to identify.

PeterAndreForPM · 03/04/2011 23:15

See your GP, BC, and tell him/her exactly how this impacts on your life x

bristolcities · 03/04/2011 23:22

Thank you. I think I'm a bit worried because I have been to my GP with an ED which I am mostly recovered from but still worried they might think Its an issue to do with this rather than an actual physical and unrelated esteem issue.
