Anyone been to Aveda hair salon?

I have extremely big, curly, dry (3b) hair that needs a good cut and colour. My regular hairdresser gives an adequate cut but no better than that. Feel like a change Smile
I have heard amazing things about Aveda Curl Control stuff. Have ordered 2 bottles of the leave-in conditioner which I'm dying to try out.
But my question is - has anyone tried the Aveda hair salons? They are supposed to be wicked for curly hair but are £££ so am wondering if they are worth it?? If they are, I'm planning to book in for colour and cut - but would rather have some MN guidance first! I'm in East London if that makes a difference
Thanks ladies xxx

I went to the Aveda 'lifestyle' salon in West London and it was insanely expensive - £70 for a poxy haircut and blowdry. I didn't have time for the shoulder massage which they throw in but they charged me for it anyway. With hairdressers you are sometimes paying for the spa like atmosphere or the name - all that matters is how they wield the scissors.

Ask around for a personal hairdresser recommendation - always the best way. And I've started using moroccan hair oil on my curls - absolutely brilliant.

Interesting!!! Thanks Frizzbonce - that could be my name too! Have heard mixed, but mostly brilliant things about Morrocan oil - may have to give it a try. Were you happy with your haircut though? I'm guessing you didnt' think it was worth 70 sheets but were you happy with it?

I have a brilliant cut at Gina Conway in SW London which is Aveda. They do wonderful things with my curly hair.

Ooh, interesting! Good to have options Wink

Don't have curly hair but I also go to Gina Conway (ask for Tracey!).

I go to the local one in a small Surrey town. The service is great and costs me £99 for cut and colour which is cheaper than Rush which I used to go to. I have curly hair and they cut is really nice.

Haven't had a haircut in the Aveda London salon, just a salon that uses their products IYSWIM. However, I've used the Curl Control stuff and it's nice, but I got better results using cheapo Boots Curl Creme (the pink one). All depends on the barnet I reckon. Smile

I did Curly Girl for a while, and I remember that all the Aveda products were frowned upon due to their high silicone content, if that makes a difference to you.

Aveda products are lovely but agreed, pricey. I think Aveda salons vary so I don't think it's a blanket response. I don't have curly hair, but irritatingly fine hair that lots of people don't understand how to cut. I think it's all about finding someone who understands your hair. Yes, the products are lovely, but unless you actually back it up by using them all the time I don't think it makes a difference. That said, the colour makes a big difference...
FFTM obviously has found something for her curls...

(I do like the hand massages I get though at Aveda salons whilst my highlights are being done. It normally sends me to sleep. Joy)

I use the Boots curl creme and it is indeed fab! I also use a bit of Argan oil first.

JosieRosie · 03/04/2011 11:52

Thanks a lot everyone. I do use the Boots curl creme and am very happy with it. Will compare with the Aveda stuff when it arrives - may end up saving myself a fortune!
