If you arranged with the receptionist to have a stylist and pay £34 for your teenage dd hair cut ,you send a cheque and unknown to you or your dd a senior stylist cuts it and charges £42 (which is more than the cheque and forces a visit to the autobank ,therefore not the treatit was intended to be), would you be ok and just chalk it up to experience?
Isthis happening in other hairdressers?

I'd say it's not on to do that, but equally I'm not sure they see a lot of lone teenagers with a blank cheque.

staryeyed · 02/04/2011 19:06

Did she have an extras that were not included?

girlscout · 02/04/2011 19:14

No, she didnt have a blank cheque it was made out ahead of time .DD is 17 so not a kid, but it was supposed to be my treat. This has happened before ,they gave me a price then charged for the senior,so I was very clear when I spoke to the receptionist.
I must have mug written over my face, but dd really liked the first cut she got, so I thought I'de be more careful this time.
She didnt have extras,as far as I could see .

I would be inclined to go in and ask for a refund of the difference, as it was not the service you had requested and they changed it without discussing it before the haircut.
Particularly if she is under 18, I think they should have let you know if they were going to make changes to the agreed stylist

MissMarjoribanks · 02/04/2011 19:28

This happened to me all the time. Which is why I don't go there anymore.

52Girls · 02/04/2011 19:30

If agreed beforehand then I'd also ask
for a refund.

girlscout · 02/04/2011 19:35

I did stand in the queue, intending to politely bring this up ,but after a little time just lost the will! i think i'll chalk it up.

This is why I avoid t & g.

girlscout · 02/04/2011 20:21

Thanks for your replies, I think i'll follow MM and FC77 and not bother with them again.

i used to work at toni and guy on reception and can honestly say it was the worst job i've ever had, and i've had some rubbish jobs.

they bill themselves as cutting edge but they seemed to know two styles (usually the quickest and easiest to do) and of course, everyone needed layers, regardless of whether or not they asked for them. the stylists (senior or otherwise) were dramatic, bitchy little creatures who would moan and complain about the clients who were paying at minimum upwards of thirty pounds for a wash and cut - they moaned if people "didn't want much taken off" for not being imaginative enough and then complained when people stubbornly refused to be bullied into one of the two hair styles they seemed familiar with. they were near apocalyptic if someone with thick, long or curly hair came for a cut (as it takes longest with those hair types) and with regular clients they had some nasty nicknames for most of them.

of course they should have been upfront at the beginning with your dd about the price change before they sat her down - it sounds to me as if the stylist you'd booked had overun with her previous client and the senior stylist stepped in to do your dds cut, and should have done it at the quoted price. that would have been the case while i was there so i certainly think you should phone them and see if you can get the difference back. they'll dislike you for doing it but you are well within your rights to do so and in my experience they dislike everyone paying for their service anyway.

bitter, aren't i ? it was a vile place. if i were you i'd try and get some reccomendations from friends of good hairdressers in your area, take your dd along for a consultation, let them make a fuss of her and pay for a decent service.

This happened to me at my local (not toni and guy) hairdressers recently.

It was the end of the month, had no money, budgeted £20 for the express cut (no blowdry) with the most junior stylist. Took the money out, went along, got hair cut then they charged me £25 which I had to put on a credit card. I never use credit cards but I ended up being £25 in debt that day!

My dd has really curley long hair, and is a undemostrative soul, she didn't have a chance really, did she?
This time ,she looked like a blunt poodle(not like last time-loose corkscrew curls, floaty and romantic). so it wasnt even an enjoyable experience.
