Hi,

So I bought a John Frieda foam thingummy jobby

I know I need to dot eh allergy test

It says inteh instructions to rinse out the dye after 30mins and then condition. Does it mean I don't shampoo in between then?
Also can I rinse it out in the shower and let the chemicals run down my back/body or do I need to hang my head over the bath so as to minimise contact with teh chemicals on my skin?

I rinse, then use a shampoo to get all the gunk out, then leave conditioning stuff in for about 5 mins, rinse (I go for in the shower as normal, the stuff has been on my scalp that long and been alright). I bleach mine and have done regularly for 10 years, no problems. Good luck!

You can rinse it out in shower, the chemicals have already been on your scalp for half hour so no danger in them running down your back briefly.

You usually just rinse out the colour and then condition as it states on box.

If it's permanent I would really recommend a strand test.

Strand test? Is that where I do a bit underneath first to check the colour??? Or something else?

Yep. Cut a little "sample" of hair from somewhere at the back of your head and obviously not the top layer - like middle of the back of your hair. We are talking a small sample, maybe 10 strands of hair in a cluster, and then what I do is get a sticky label (or even some sticky tape) and wrap it round the very top to keep it "in place" as a strand.

I then lay my stickered strand on top of a piece of foil, paint on some of the dye, fold up the foil around it (so it doesn't dry out) and leave it for the processing time. Try and keep the conditions the same as if it were on your head - so don't say place it on a windowsil in the sun or sit it on top of the radiator (!) - just somewhere room tempeature. If its hotter than it will be then it will process quicker and wont give you as accurate idea of the result in the time.

When the time is up, rinse it off and let it dry. That is your new colour!

If it looks quite dark or darker than you think, let alarm bells ring in your head because as a block colour all over your hair and right next to your face it might be scary. Depends what you are hoping to achieve!

If you are going a few shades lighter and the result is really gingery, be careful of that too, it means you need to pre-lighten...

TY Tatt....was wondering about the logistics of dying a small strand.

I can do at with teh same small bit of dye I make up for the allergy test then...
