I've just bought this pretty dress

I don't get to dress up much, so need some help. I can't go extravagant, as our budget is next to nothing, but obviously I need something to go with it. I have shoes, and a bag, so just need jewellery. Any ideas on what sort of necklace etc I should get?

What colour are your shoes and bag ? Where are you wearing it ? I think the necklace on the mannequin is a bit fussy would probably go more simple and elegant as dress is quite busy

MadameCastafiore · 01/04/2011 20:42

I would just wear very small plain earrings - don't get slapping load so fbaibles on when you have a dress like that think less is deffo more and classier!

Imnotaslimjim · 01/04/2011 20:56

It will be plain black shoes and bag. I'm going out to a fancy restaraunt for my 30th birthday next week.

I thought the same about the necklace on there. So I'm thinking of curling my hair and getting some simple hoop earrings and a long necklace

I think i would go for small ear rings and short necklace to keep above neck line of dress

Lilyloo · 01/04/2011 21:06

this

Lilyloo · 01/04/2011 21:07

or maybe this and these and leave the necklace ??

cybbo · 01/04/2011 21:11

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to say it

That dress is like a dress a bridesmaid would wear. You are going to restaurant non? You are only 30! There are LOADS of nicer more fashionable dresses than that one. Sorry

Imnotaslimjim · 01/04/2011 21:35

Yes I know its a little dressy for a restaurant, Cybbo, but I really like it. I can't usually afford something so pretty so I went for it. I couldn't afford that one you've shown me, no matter how much more wearable it is!

Lily, that first one is lovely, will keep it in mind. Not too keen on rings, don't even wear a wedding ring, but its a nice idea

Please don;t wear lots of jewellry with it - I think it is incredibly aging when women where glitzy dresses and 'matching' jewellry- just wear your normal rings and a nice small classy pair of earrings.

olympialimpet · 01/04/2011 22:04

Have no suggestions for accessories but wanted to say I think the dress you have chosen is very pretty and a bargain too

The other dress linked to is boring, plain and stodgy

Imnotaslimjim · 01/04/2011 22:25

See Madame, thats why I came here, as I have no idea at all when it comes to things like that. I thought classy and plain would be the way to go, but wanted some reassurance. As I said, I don't really do rings, but I think a simple necklace and earrings will do it

Olympia, thank you. I'll be honest, I'm a bit fed up of being frumpy. I am overweight but just for once I want to look pretty rather than try to hide away in a black dress. Its my birthday, I'm shitting it about being 30 and I want to look nice!

I think it is a lovely dress. Happy birthday!

MrsSeanBean · 01/04/2011 23:14

Hope you have a great birthday and enjoy wearing it!
It's very striking, so I would keep jewellery minimal as others have said. I think a shrug or stole (draped around shoulders) would be nice over the top - something like this maybe (but not that colour)??

TheFarSide · 01/04/2011 23:21

That dress is totally gorgeous!

Imnotaslimjim · 01/04/2011 23:26

Aw thank you, all of you! MrsSB, the dress comes with a matching wrap - I wouldn't have dared go bare armed, I'd have had to sit with my elbows by my side all evening to hide the bingo wings pmsl

Even better ImnotaSlimJim!
Enjoy :)
