I am having a sartorial nightmare looking for a dress to wear for ds' christening a week on Sunday.

I have just ordered 8 (!) dresses from asos, which will all be too bloody short, no doubt.

hear, hear.... I totally agree.... Either it's maxi and I've gotta pay £7 to get the hem taken up or I just can't wear it cos it's too short.....being a lady with unfortunate chunky thighs I would prefer to keep them covered thank you very much. These so-called "dresses" when you bend over give everyone an unsightly flash of bum & knickers when you bend over too. Need more dresses to the knee on the market please!!

It's infuriating me. Really. I'm too young for old lady shops, yet these are the only shops that sell dresses that would be in any way classy or decent! And I am so sick of black opaques.

Well said, Euphemia.

Please tell me when you find some (knee length, A line) dresses, I am definately in agreement with you all!

I love Zara. I feel like it's all (in the main) elegant and appropriate. I wish they had a website.

Zara do have a website. And you can order for free collection in store if you don't want to pay for delivery.

OMG! I thought it was just me!

Bought a dress online the other day which said that it was being modelled on a 5'10" model, came to her mid-thigh so thought it would be somewhere near my knees (am approaching 30 - can'do short anymore).

Got it delivered and it ONLY JUST covered my arse. Even with leggings on I felt indecent! Gave it to my friend's teenage daughter in the end.

I wear any dress more than 4" above my knee with leggings now, just so I feel suitably covered up!!

And so many websites don't give the length of skirts and dresses. The fact that the model is 5ft 10 is far less useful than the fact that the dress is 36 inches long.

It would reduce the number of returns too, so I don't understand why they haven't cottoned on.

Pinkjenny · 30/03/2011 16:09

MoonGirl1981 - this is exactly my problem. I don't want to wear black opaques for the christening, but for me to bare my legs, it's ging to need to hit below my knee.

This is proving an impossibility, and I know the asos ones will be too short.

I have this very problem. Am 5'7 so not giant but find not only do dresses come up ridiculously short showing my horrible knees, but the waists are too high as well. I look like I'm wearing a 10 year old's party frock. Any recommendations for where to fond normal length clothes?

noddyholder · 30/03/2011 19:33

As my legs are still in good shape and the rest has gone south I am LOVING it!
