Breastfeeding - need dress for wedding, help!

Hello stylish ladies!
I have no style at the best of times but am struggling more than usual as I am breastfeeding, which limits my options.
I have v dark brown hair, green eyes, pale olive skin.
Am a size 12 or a large 10 with 34GG boobs, not quite an hourglass shape (bit of a paunchy, wobbly tum), flat bum, ok legs.
Would like something feminine that can be dressed up or down. Quite like 50s style/floaty/flowery.
TIA

Will you be bf at the wedding? If so i would go for separates

ShirleySharpeyes · 30/03/2011 11:46

I went to a very smart wedding with my then 5 week old baby a few years ago - and wore a full 50's style silk skirt, vest top and little cashmere cardigan and big glitzy necklace. Could then hoik top up or down to plug baby on. Much easier than a dress IMHO.

Mumbybumby · 30/03/2011 12:12

Yes, I will be BF at the wedding - DS is 7 weeks old and I might express some but that will go off if left out all day. TBH I wouldn't prefer to BF anyway.
So you think separates then? Looks like I'll have to stop being tight and buy a whole outfit then! :)
any suggestions on where to look - I haven't a clue!

Where did you get the skirt, Shirley?

It was from a little boutique in our local town by Danish designer CCDK and gold with a sort of peacock pattern and sequins (sounds vile but was actually very dressy and I've worn it for other smart occasions). I really wanted to look nice for the wedding despite the shock of just having had my 1st bub and the wobbly tum that arrives with the birth. I shall have a rummage and see if I can find anthing similar on some other websites. Back in a mo.

Mumbybumby · 30/03/2011 12:38

Ah thanks Shirley - the outfit you described sounds lovely, right up my street. Have looked on the net for 50s skirts but most results are of dresses so appreciate you having a look for me!

It was this sort of shape worn with a strappy vest and cardi. I like this which would look good with a black vest and this which you could add a bright colour to and a nice little jacket or cardi. Annoyingly everyone will be cooing at the baby - but I do really understand that it is massively important for you to feel comfy and attractive as well despite lack of sleep!

Mumbybumby · 30/03/2011 12:54

Thanks for those - I like the second two - and you've given me some food for thought and sites to visit. Just out of interest, what colour would you put with the phase eight skirt? I really have no idea about these things!

OP posts:
ShirleySharpeyes · 30/03/2011 12:59

ooooh I like that Phase Eight one the most as well, think it would be very flattering to the tum- good price as well. You could stay safe and go for classic navy but I think a raspberry or coral would also look good - or a purple, depending on your colouring/what suits you best!

Mumbybumby · 30/03/2011 13:06

Ooh yes, I like the idea of coral or raspberry. The skirt is a bargain as well, at half price! Thanks so much for your help - am of to try and put an outfit together! Any recommendations on shoe colour? (this dressing up lark is tough!)

I wore a wrapover style dress with a pashmina when I was bfing ds2 at a wedding. I shall try and find something similar....

BadRoly · 30/03/2011 13:09

www.monsoon.co.uk/sale-dresses/arizona-dress/invt/85307288/

similar to this style - there was enough give in the busty bits to get my boob out for ds and i covered him/me with the pashmina.

I am not sure I have explained myself very well there Blush

MooMooFarm · 30/03/2011 13:12

I am the same kind of dimensions as you OP. I went to a wedding when DD was BFing and wore a long floaty skirt, a wrap top and a pashmina to shield my boob when necessary Smile

otchayaniye · 30/03/2011 13:17

How about a wrap dress? I wore/wear these as I didn't ever find anything specifically breastfeedy that I ever liked and didn't want to buy specific bfeeding clothing (apart from really good anita underwired bfeeding bras - the dog's nads, as it were). Issa, DVF etc all do nice ones you can keep for ever. You could wear a camisole under it and lift that up the then pull the side over.

Or separates if you don't want to bare any flesh at all.

ShirleySharpeyes · 30/03/2011 13:31

Tough but fun Mumby! I am hopeless when it comes to shoes, navy I guess would be best. If money no object (or you find a good sale) then I would choose soemthing frm here [http://www.chiemihara.com/collection-LangEng.html Chie Mihara] really comfy, bit quirky and will last ages. Alternatively there must be something cheap and cheerful on the m&s website!

ShirleySharpeyes · 30/03/2011 13:32

Am sure a shoe expert will be along d'rectly to assist.

otchayaniye · 30/03/2011 14:06

breastfeeding shoes? God, those marketers will stop at nothing ....

KristinaM · 30/03/2011 16:11

IMo you will get more wear out of top /cardi /skirt combo as can be dressed down for other events

Cardi and vest top will fit when you return to pre baby size and if it's a full skirt like those suggested you will only need the waist taken in

50s style also v good with mid height heel, so easier to walk /dance in than stupid stilettos
