Flaky scalp shampoo please

Boots have discontinued their Expert Flaky scalp shampoo and even though I stockpiled I have now run out :-(

I don't like Head and Shoulders or t-Gel, they are way too harsh and itchy scalp comes back once I stop using them.

What is gentle, probably ph neutral, and won't break the bank? (Don't mind spending a bit more than the average if its good though).

erm, try dentinox cradle cap shampoo? It's got to be worth a punt. £2.

PippiL · 28/03/2011 20:44

Ooh like your style! Yes I might try that.

Only thing is that baby shampoos often don't foam enough for my liking. Still not much lost for £2 a try.

paul mitchell does a tea tree shampoo and aveda has a flaky shampoo too - but i don't know how good it is.

maxpower · 28/03/2011 20:47

years ago, my hairdresser recommended polytar. stinks to high heaven but works.

BelligerentGhoul · 28/03/2011 20:47

Oh, I've never thought of trying cradle cap shampoo - might have to pinch that idea!

I've been using Eucerin - it's pretty good but in the last week or so my scalp has been worse again for some reason.

Bonkerz · 28/03/2011 20:48

try loreal elvive INTENSIVE (its a blue bottle with orange writing, hard to get hold of but amazing!)......it has selenium which helps even my psoriosis!

scotsgirl23 · 28/03/2011 20:49

I've just started using body shop ginger anti dandruff shampoo which has made a huge difference.

ChateauRouge · 28/03/2011 21:02

My scalp has been dry and itchy for the first time in years today- maybe it's the change in the weather?

CMOTdibbler · 28/03/2011 21:06

After having a manky scalp for years, someone on here (think it was you Bonkerz) recommended the Elvive in the dk blue bottle, and it has made a huge, huge difference to me - theres not a single flake now

BelligerentGhoul · 28/03/2011 21:16

I adore the smell of Polytar - but it stopped working for me.

I have no dandruff - just horrible dry, sore, itchy scalp.

Oh the E45 one worked for me for a while as well, then stopped.

Leo35 · 28/03/2011 21:19

Body Shop Ginger shampoo seconded here. It should be available now, they have had supply problems. No idea if it's pH neutral though.

FunnyLittleFrog · 28/03/2011 21:30

That Elvive stuff is tops. Only thing that works and I've tried em all.

PippiL · 28/03/2011 22:08

I don't like Polytar, doesn't seem to wash very well and still get flaky scalp!!

Might try the bodyshop one. Ginger sounds nice. And will keep a look out for the elusive blue and orange elvive!

Curses to Boots for stopping the Expert stuff.

Oh am so thankful for this thread - my excema seems to have gone into the top of my hair so it is all flaky, but still dry ... tried Head and shoulders for dry hair and it has done nothing. Would you recommend the elvive one for excema too? If it can be found that is.

crazynell · 28/03/2011 23:30

Nizoral work for me on my itchy flakey scalp

bakedacake · 28/03/2011 23:38

would definitely second body shop ginger shampoo. have had dreadful scalp problems for years (seb derm which is basically like severe dandruff) and this is the best one i have ever used for controlling my flaky scalp (in that i don't have any flakes when i use it) AND it does not destroy your hair in the process. can't recommend it highly enough.

BelligerentGhoul · 29/03/2011 18:59

How much is the Body Shop one? Do they do samples?

Nizorel worked for a while for me and then stopped too. :(

snail1973 · 29/03/2011 19:59

Philip Kingsley's Itchy Flaky scalp shampoo (and other things in the range). It sorted out my scalp and I honestly never use anything else now - TGel etc never worked very well for me.

Leo35 · 30/03/2011 18:45

BelligerenGhoul - suggest that you use bare faced cheek and asked for sample at your local Body Shop! If you mention that you saw it recommended and why you want to try it - should get you a sample to take home? Good luck! A 400ml bottle is £6 iirc.

BelligerentGhoul · 30/03/2011 18:46

Thank you. I will do so! That's a good price - the Eucerin is much more expensive.

piratecat · 30/03/2011 18:57

my mum has had terrible psoriasis on her scalp for years, sometimes thick weeping crusts, and it's been hell.

But she has found the Philip Kingsley flaky scalp shampoo a true miracle. Pricey, but she buys in bulk. It's worked so well she has even had regrowth.

piratecat · 30/03/2011 18:59

ah snail! i didn't read your post.

i am thinking of trying it too, as i have started to get problems.

TheEffinOasis · 30/03/2011 19:04

OP, are you sure they have discontinued it? I just bought some on Tuesday - it is still called Skin Expert but has been totally repackaged. It's called the same but now in cream/gold coloured packaging (looks like some of the more expensive brands now), same stuff as far as I can tell...

SenoraTorres · 31/03/2011 07:37

I'm going to say Philip Kingsley too - its brilliant, nothing else comes close. Can get good deals on QVC......Grin

Havingkittens · 31/03/2011 09:50

Oilatum shampoo is blissful relief when my scalp is like that.
