What to do? Hairdresser thinks I would suit crop but I'm a chicken

Aworryingtrend · 28/03/2011 10:05

Went to a 'Ladies night' type thing at a spa recently with hair/make-up demonmstrations and free bubbly on friday and was picked to have consultation with the uber-cool award-winning hairdresser. The hairdresser did an 'appraisal' of me and he obviously really knows his stuff...but his recommendation was that I should get my haicut off into a crop!

My hair is currently shoulder-length having grown out of a bob as I felt the bob made me look too young (I'm 28 but still get asked for ID!) but to be honest I'm not happy with it longer- its just kind of hanging there and not doing anyhting (even though its layered/styled) etc.

I would love to go shorter if I'm honest I'm just not sure I have the confidence to do it- I used to be larger and still think of my face as being fat even though I'm slimmer now (sz10-12). The other consideration is my high forehead but the hairdresser thinks that a crop with sweeping fringe over to one side would help.

Argh! How can I decide what to do?!

do it. it will look lovely.you are young and slim go for it.

short crops can take a surprising amount of maintenance, both with trims and every morning. I had one years ago and struggled every morning to stop myself resembling a year 7 boy. HOWEVER, with a really good cut and the right shaped face they are stunning. Any chance you can post a pic?

polyhymnia · 28/03/2011 10:15

If I were your age and size and had a good hairdresser would definitely go for it.

I loved the one which - though much, much older than you - I had until quite recently. Decided to go for something a bit longer in the end, but still miss it, and many of the hairstyles I admire on other women are crops which look both feminine and stylish. As well as being so easy to care for, of course.

I should say this is the kind of thing I was thinking of- I wouldn't dare do an Emma Watson- it looks amazing on her but elfin I ain't. Trying to find photos to put on profile now!

Hairdresser isn't the one wearing it.....go through some mags or online and print off some "dos" YOU can see you a)wearing and b)maintaining.

That's my advice.

If she insists on doing something you're not sure about.....run!!!!!

polyhymnia · 28/03/2011 10:47

I like the wispy bob - probably because it's most like my style now (I thought you meant a short crop originally - would call whast you've posted short styles, not crops). But trying styles out online is really good advice.

upahill · 28/03/2011 10:47

Not a chance in hell would I go short again. I got talked into once and sure enough it looked nice. BUT it wasn't me. I felt very self concioud, over exposed and not feminine. It knocked my confidence and took years to grow back.

Get a decent hairdresser to style what you have. You can do more with you hair length atm. Don't cut.

upahill · 28/03/2011 10:49

Out of the pictures you have put up VB'S is the best

Aworryingtrend · 28/03/2011 10:58

Ok... photos on profile now. I'm a dress size smaller now than i was in the summer holiday photos.

As you can see my hair was bobbed for a long time and I didn't unlike it as such i just felt it made me look young and I'm looking for a more edgy but practical version IYSWIM?

OP posts:
upahill · 28/03/2011 11:06

sorry I can't get your profile up.

Have you made it public?

notasize10yetbutoneday · 28/03/2011 11:15

Its me the OP under a different name, can you see them now?

notasize10yetbutoneday · 28/03/2011 11:20

They are on this profile now as well- somehow I have two different MN accounts Confused

Aworryingtrend · 28/03/2011 11:21

Oh FFS...

OP posts:
numptysmummy · 28/03/2011 11:38

I like the whispy bob. My hair is shoulder length with a half grown out fringe at that is exactly what i want to have done.

DuplicitousBitch · 28/03/2011 11:54

yes to whispy bob, no to v. short hair

MooMooFarm · 28/03/2011 12:02

You have a round-ish face (like me!) so I would say your bob in the pic is probably not the most flattering cut for you. But I wouldn't go very short either - more a choppy, unstructured shape like www.ghdlife.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/short-choppy-shag.jpg

upahill · 28/03/2011 12:07

Definatly not a short crop.
I'm still gong with the VB style.

pink4ever · 28/03/2011 15:36

No sorry dont think it will suit you.Your face is too round. Fringe?.

Curiousmama · 28/03/2011 15:51

How are people seeing your pic on profile? Agree short hair does need upkeep, every few weeks for a trim.

Curiousmama · 28/03/2011 15:53

Well you look like a heart shape to me? Not saying I like the girl particularly but I do like Kerry Katona's cut, how about that?

Aworryingtrend · 28/03/2011 16:46

Thanks everyone for the feedback- yes my moonface is the bane of my life even though its slimmer now than it was I'm still concious of it. I hadn't seen kerry katona's hair Curiousmama and actually I really like it- quite classy suprisingly for her. So I think something between the VB graduate bob and KK's. With a side fringe over my enormous forehead.

OP posts:
Curiousmama · 28/03/2011 17:54

Yes I was surprised how nice it is too. Hope you end up happy with whatever you decide and post a pic Smile

Gertiegoolash · 28/03/2011 21:04

I too have a moonface Grin and when I had a bob it made my face look even rounder, I have a pixie crop now and it has made my face look slimmer (I am a size 14 btw), I say go for it!

Curiousmama · 29/03/2011 08:19

full fringes aren't slimming to the face either.
