Damn. I was going to say i have a fancy brush thing by Mac which after googling I have realised is the £28 stipple brush. Not much help then.

littleomar · 26/03/2011 19:03

it may yet come to that...

fingers all the way

go on ebay
i always buy Bobbi brown brushed on there

berri · 26/03/2011 19:07

Can you go into a mac counter and ask them to help you learn how to apply with your fingers? Sure they'd help, even if you haven't got their blusher you could say you're thinking of buying and want to make sure you can do it yourself before you spend the cash?

Havingkittens · 26/03/2011 19:46

Using your fingers is fine. A brush will help give a more even blended look but try with your fingers and see how you get on.

Start with a smile, then see where your cheeks plump up when you smile (apples) and put a finger print sized dot in the middle of that part, then blend away until you have no crazy Aunt Sally style edges to your blusher. Taper up cheekbone towards hairline.

Blusher shouldn't come in further on your cheek than the centre of your eye (otherwise you might look like you're going through the menopause or are a bit pissed)

you can use a foundation brush, Bobbi Brown counter used one on me - any brand is fine (ie boots) because they hair is synthetic, so no need to spend a fortune!

JFly · 26/03/2011 20:14

If you get a good product (Bobbi Brown) you can just use your fingers. Make sure your skin is well moisturised and that will help with application. Just use sparingly and blend blend blend.

MissFoodie · 26/03/2011 20:15

yes, I use fingers - the best cream blushers are RMS Beauty or NARS btw!

Havingkittens · 26/03/2011 20:27

Oh yes, and apply before powder, not after.

ZenNudist · 26/03/2011 20:36

Agree it's ok to use fingers but I wouldn't go sticking fingers into expensive cream blush. Introduce all sorts of bacteria, a sponge would be ok then blend by hand. I use a Dior foundation brush that they flogged me with the blush :) it works a treat but mostly I dab it on with the brush, blend by hand.

Have Mac Brit Wit cream blush.....always apply with fingers.

kittya · 26/03/2011 21:49

I bought a new cream blusher from Mac last week. It was put on with one of their fab brushes. I went to Body Shop and bought one for half the price and the blusher does go on better with it. Im quite a cream blusher convert now!

Jewelsandgems · 26/03/2011 22:26

I use my foundation brush. But before I use it 2 apply blisher, I use that same brush to apply my tinted moisterisor and apply my highlighter (as recommended by lisa elgridge on an 'applying highlighter' youtube video - work off the excess on the back of my hand) and works a treat! My brush is a free lancome one, and works perfectly.

If I cant use a brush for some random reason, sponge works very well too - I dont find my fingers work well, and I dont find the creme blush goes on as well unless I apply immediatly after tinted moisterisor. :)

thank you everyone. i knew i'd get a result on here. now to practise.

If you are interested in getting a brush (I usually apply cream blusher with my fingers and then blend with a brush) have a look at the ELF Studio Stipple Brush
It's only £3.50 and is very similiar to the MAC 187. I also have the Powder Brush which is amazing for applying foundation.
The ELF brushes have great reviews on Make Up Alley and most of the ones I've got are great.

wendihouse22 · 27/03/2011 15:14

Kittya? What's the Body Shop brush like? I have BS blush brush but it's kinda fat like a minerals product applicator. That the one you have? Can I use it for Mac cream blush? Isn't the cream quite sticky for a brush?

kittya · 28/03/2011 23:27

I thought that until the lady at mac used one. I use the bs foundation brush.

Thanks....
