Firstly, I'm sorry I know skincare has been done LOADS, but I really need some help!! Well I'm 47 and my face seems to have aged rapidly and now I really dislike looking at myself in the mirror. I just need to for the first time in my life to get a proper skincare care routine in place. the main problems seem to be that my skin tone is uneven, saggy and dull looking, I've also got a few lines starting to appear and some of these are quite noticeable. My skin just looks old and tired and really needs some proper skincare. Any advice would be very gratefully received. Oh, and my hair seems to have gone straw like and dry recently as well ! so if anyone has any miracle cures regarding that I would love you forever Smile

Liz Earle - reasonable priced and works as well!

Themumsnot · 25/03/2011 14:35

I posted pretty much exactly this about a week ago.
Some kind ladies helped me out. I started the oil cleansing method a week ago and my skin is already looking loads better. I bought argan oil which is definitely helping tame the straw-like hair which even Aussie Deep Heat conditioner wasn't getting a grip on. And I went to the Clinique counter and got superdefence moisturiser which is fab. Someone one here recommended Boots pore miniming serum as well and it definitely makes a difference.
I've been wearing foundation, mascara and moisturising lip balm every day. The difference is incredible. I feel human again. Today I bought a spring jacket and two dresses (albeit in Sainsbury's). Next week - a cut and colour.

mumblechum1 · 25/03/2011 14:37

marking place. Am Envy that you are only now getting a few wrinkles. My face looks like it has several Grand Canyons running through it.

odetothewestwing · 25/03/2011 14:42

Ah yes, please may I join in. I have just got some MAC skin primer with built-in sun protection and thought I would try this under some tinted moisturizer (am sure I read this tip on another thread). Concur with the OP re: hair - mine is a frizz bomb! Doesn't help that I can't really afford a regular colour at the hairdressers and am thinking of trying an off-the-shelf job {{gulp}}. Off to google 'argan oil'!

MarmadukeMarmalade · 25/03/2011 15:28

Thanks for your replies ladies! themum I agree the oil cleansing method is really good and I am actually doing this at the moment, but I think I need something a little more industrial Smile as I really need to get a grip with my skin - thought maybe if I use all the products from one brand that might work. I actually bought some Moroccan oil last week which I'm finding pretty good with the frizzy straw, but I must be putting too much on as my hair is looking a bit lank!!
Bovrilon I nearly bought Liz Earle from QVC this morning but wasn't sure so thought I would post on here first!
ode been using "nice and easy" hair colour for years, but I think that is what might be drying my hair out, so I'm going to try hairdresser colour (I'll just cut back on food!) BUT when I bought the moroccan oil the hairdresser said you can put a tiny drop of it in the colouring solution and this will counteract the drying effect of the colour, you could give it a try
If I could go back 20 years I would stop sleeping with my face cupped in my hand as I think that has caused a lot of my deeper wrinkles (as well a age)

I'm nearly 46 and marking place on this thread as recently, my regime doesn't seem to be working.
I've got spots, but dry skin too for the first time in my life (the spots, skin always been dry)
My favourite foundation (Clarins Instant Smooth) is sitting on my skin like paper. I feel like an old hag. And my class of 12 yr olds yesterday (when I foolishly asked them to make assumptions about me based on my appearance for an exercise) said I was "quite old". Harump.

NotQuiteCockney · 26/03/2011 09:04

There's an easy, cheap fix.

Get a big pot of Vaseline.

Smear it on all the mirrors.

Job done. [helpful]

zookeeper · 26/03/2011 09:15

another hag here marking her place - I saw my mother looking out at me from the mirror yesterday.

..AND daddy's girlfriend wears smaller knickers than me - but that's a whole new thread lol

VerityBrulee · 26/03/2011 09:22

La Roche Posay is a really good brand of skincare, my friend is a dermatologist and she recommends it to her patients. They have a very wide range for different skin types and a v good daytime SPF 50 fluid that's light and not shiney. ROC is also good, they have a retinol night cream that's great.

Also spend a bit of time massaging in your moisturiser, it's good for your circulation.

L'oreal studio secrets primer is a good polyfilla type of thing, use it on your lines after your foundation, and Maybelline have a new one in a jar that's great under your foundation.

Will be back if I remember anything else Smile

FellatioNelson · 26/03/2011 09:35

I know exactly how you feel. I always used to pride myself on good skin when I was younger, but lately (I've just turned 45) I seem to wake up resembling Walter Matthau. Shock

I keep scrutinising all my friends faces and I'm sure I'm wrinklier and more jowly that all of them.

ZZZenAgain · 26/03/2011 09:36

what about the neck? I wish I knew what had happened to my neck fgs

Deux · 26/03/2011 10:23

I've recently switched to Clinique and am really quite surprised at how good my skin is looking right now.

I'm using that stuff they advertise using the spotty egg. Clinical? Sorry but can't remember what it's called but I swear it's made a difference to my skin tone, it seems much more even. I had lots of pigmentation post-DCs and pale scars from spots.

Something you might be interested in is that Jo Fairley is bringing out a new Beauty Bible book specifically for anti-ageing.

I have a good friend who's a beauty therapist and she recently assessed my skin and recommended Micro dermabrasion. I'll mark this thread and report back as I hope to have it next month (and poss Botox but shhhhh!)

polyhymnia · 26/03/2011 10:37

Yes, was going to say, Jo Fairley and Sarah Stacey's latest Anti-Aging Bible has just come out - saw them launching it in Selfridges and bought it for about £12.00 on Amazon. They obviously go to a lot of trouble getting people to test products so, though its recommendations can't be the 'perfect solution' for everyone, it's worth a look, IMO.

cornsilk678 · 26/03/2011 10:43

I like eve lom cleanser and clarins do a marula oilcleanser which is really nice and doesn't dry my skin. I 've started using decleor oils and moisturisers which are great for 40+ skin. Also clarins do a really good lip balm/cream thing for fine lines around the lips. I use clarins beauty flash balm under Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser which perks me up. Apart from that sleep (I don't get enough Sad) and exercise really help my skin.

BelligerentGhoul · 26/03/2011 11:30

I've started using Bio-Oil every evening on my neck and down to bust and I think it's helping.

I really like the Olay Regenerist moisturiser and serum.

And exfoliation can help. I use the Olay Regenerist face wash thing with grainy bits in but Origins usually do nice scrubs too.

cornsilk678 · 26/03/2011 12:09

I tried bio oil but it didn't agree with my skin. I use a neck gel by gatineau (from QVC) which is good and has lasted ages. decleor also do neck creams which are meant to be good - will try theirs next I think.

LindaLaPlumeDeMaTente · 26/03/2011 12:15

Use a cleanser that you have to remove with a cloth/flannel

YES to Deceor face oils

And ROAR at fellatio and her Walter Matthau jowls

cornsilk678 · 26/03/2011 12:47
