Help! I have two DS's who have just about stopped using the pushchair now. I need some ideas on where to put all our stuff when we go on trips out / picnics etc etc as I won't have the pushchair to just bung everything into.

DH and MIL have suggested a nice (?) rucksack but I really cannot bring myself to hump a rucksack around to be honest, I am not the rucksack and fleece sort. Wink

Things I need to cart about are drink beakers x2, couple nappies for the youngest one (hopefully not needed soon but then spare clothes will be needed instead for a while!), sometimes a small picnic lunch.

Do I just get a big holdall sort of bag ? Which one ? I need one thats a reasonable size without being so big it looks ridiculous and a reasonable price too.

Argh! What do you ladies do ? There must be loads of you out there in the same situation ?

I have one DS coming up 3. I have been wondering about a rucksac but have no advice to offer. I tried 2 large holdalls on my last excursion. I was not a success. I would like a handsfree solution. I will watch with interest.

how casual do you want it to look? I would probably just go with a nice oversize bag that you like. And rucksacks needn't be boring. I find rucksacks really handy as you are essentially hands free. Would you want on the shoulder or over the shoulder? You could search for messenger bags, they are generally quite roomy?

I recommend a large handbag (cross body strap) and ditch the beakers in favour of sealed juice cartons as they are smaller and don't leak.

But the best option is 2xThomas the tank engine rucksacks and get your DSs to carry their lunch and/or lightweight change of clothes and toy car/colouring pencils.

My DCs liked a bit of self-sufficiency, and rucksacks look much better on small boys than grown women.

How about something like this

NinjaChipmunk · 24/03/2011 13:02

thats gorgeous!

Ah, but my DS has a giraffe rucksack already, with a long tail, so I can keep tabs on him. Maybe I should make him drag a small wagon with his toys in? Hmm, not sure that would work..

I used the Little Life rucksacks with straps attached, and you can fit thin trousers and t-shirt, pants, socks and a toy car in them. Bit of a squeeze but do-able and so no waggon needed.

On the lunch thing, I guess you'll have to go to McD's. That is definitely better than having a rucksack Wink
