what do you think of these jeans - frumpy or fab?

so, i am rubbish at buying jeans. since DD was born last year i have bought at least 2 pairs for my changing size neither of which fit properly (gape at back is big problem i have).

in desperation i enlisted the help of a personal shopper in JL and was sold these Not Your Daughter's Jeans as ?an investment buy?. Now I have to admit that they did seem to fit everywhere and gave me a nice shape, made my legs look long and thin - at least in the changing room (or maybe it was the hideous tops that were chosen for me that made the jeans look extra good Grin).

I am however VERY put off by the name (I mean why would I want to wear jeans that belonged to my 10 month old daughter anyway) which suggests to me that should I keep them I am going to look frumpy, not fab Hmm.

so oh stylish ones, what do you suggest? i dont mind paying a bit for a decent pair of jeans, but they have to fit! and make me look lovely! i am 5ft7, size 12 but curvy (go in at waist but big bum). also (i think) have a bit of mummy tummy which i hate. oh and i am 38 if that helps too - maybe i should go for elasticated per una and be done with it?!

suggestions please!!!!

Shelley, I've been very happy with 7 For All Mankind High-waisted bootcuts. (I know bootcuts are a bit of an anathema here, but they are back... and very practical and comfortable to wear. I just spent a long weekend in Rome with DC, had 3 pair of jeans with me, and these were the ones I wore continuously.) They look slimming, contain well wobbly bits without being "mom-waisted" and fit beautifully if you are tallish. (I'm 5'7, size 10-12, 38 years, and wear 28" in 7FAM). Flares are more difficult to wear, but 7FAM also does lots of skinnies if you prefer them. If you are very curvy, try Levi's Curve ID, but they are not for me - don't fit right.

The Not your Daughters... thing is really designed for the 60+ crowd IMO.

I need new jeans too. I am 39 and my current pairs all come from M&S except one pair from Wallis which I love.

shelley there is a 7FAM sale on BrandAlley today. I just bought the high-waisted bootcuts that DonaAna mentions for £65 (over 60% off!!). If you know your waist size, give it a try. Quick though, it's selling out fast Smile

DonaAna [jealous] at your 28 inch waist. I'm a 31" with no hope of ever getting lower than that due to mummy-overhang Hmm

lackaDaisy · 24/03/2011 09:14

Envy, not [jealous].
Still...you know what I mean Grin

Totally second Gap curvy jeans. The go in at the back to fit over a big bum, yet they are a bit higher and comfy at the front for your post-baby belly, with a wide waistband - but the leg shape is flattering and not frumpy. Plus at £39 or whatever it is you will not be too devastated when they go through at the knee with all the playing with/chasing your toddler. I have 2 identical pairs and live in them.

PorkChopSter · 24/03/2011 09:43

But the Gap curvies only come in 30" length for the smaller waisted sizes... why can't I be short and fat?

polyhymnia · 24/03/2011 09:57

Donaana, don't think there is necessarily a '60+ crowd' who can just be written off as all liking the same thing, whether it's per Una or NYDJ. Any more than there's a 50+ or 40+ 'crowd'. There is no age limit on style.

withagoat · 24/03/2011 10:45

really?
no way would i ever buy 30 inch and i have a pair ( although think arent perfect for me)

PorkChopSter · 24/03/2011 19:48

They come in 32 length - for all waists, but if you want 30, you have to be skinny.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/03/2011 21:18

Yes I used to be able to fit in Gap petite jeans. Now if I was to buy a pair I'd need them taken up as I am short and fat.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/03/2011 21:30

I rate J Brand for premium denim and I've tried most.

The 912 is a cigarette leg so 12" leg opening so not uber skinny - but are you after skinnies or straight leg?

Top Shop also good - the Jessie skinny flare could work well on you. Reasonably high-waisted and very leg lengthening - good with wedges in the spring.

Used to like 7FAM but no longer a fan - they were innovative back in the day but think other brands better now.

I hate gap though - their jeans just stretch too much for me.

Oh and obviously take the NYDJ back - my mil also has them. They do seem terribly popular in the over 60's judging by this thread.

chuzzlewit · 24/03/2011 21:34

Esprit online has an amazing range of jeans in loads of styles and sizes. The cheaper ones tend to be thinnish denim, but for choice and value they're pretty good.

withagoat · 24/03/2011 21:42

Gap. Buy tight
