Would this work for childrens' bedroom

My endless search for the perfect furniture for DT's room must end soon before their feet stretch out through the ends of their cots! Wink

All I want is a set of cream or white furniture (beds, bedsides, chest of drawers and bookcase). I cannot get something I like which has a bookcase as part of the range. Perhaps I'm being too particular but hey-ho, that's me! I even ordered a bedside from John Lewis as it looked perfect. Surprisingly, the quality was disappointing.

So we've found something closer to home, solid wood, colour is perfect (off-white) but it doesn't have a bookcase.

I'll now get to the point! If everything is White, would it work to put a grey (or A.N. Other) colour bookcase in, like this in the grey? If not, any other suggestions pls? Thanks grin

M&S have cabin/high sleepers that have a cupboard, drawers, pull out desk and a bookcase underneath... they're in the new catalogue so I assume they're on the website.

That bookcase is nice though!

What about white company or GLTC for a white bookcase?

Millie1 · 22/03/2011 13:54

Sounds lovely DarkSkies but defo don't want any height ... Sloping ceilings! Hmmm, shall check out other websites you suggested but thought a contrasting colour might be better as Imagine tonal differences between whites/creams would be v obvious.

They're not high as in 'loft beds' they high as in raised about 60cm...

WhatsWrongWithYou · 22/03/2011 14:53

Have you tried Aspace? They're good quality as they're the children's arm of Heals, and their ranges can all mix and match as they're in the same shades of white.

WhatsWrongWithYou · 22/03/2011 14:55

Bookcases.

MrsBloomingTroll · 22/03/2011 17:52

Feather & Black?

We looked everywhere and settled on this range, which is solid painted pine. Good value and you can get basic pieces in various sizes/shapes. We already have it in our own bedroom and it's very hardwearing.

mamatomany · 22/03/2011 19:11

mamas and papas orchard range has a book case and would be easy to match up with other pieces. But I believe the quality isn't as high as the price.
We've bought KidsMill, dutch I believe and it's fantastic, not sure I've seen a bookcase though.

Maddikins · 22/03/2011 19:18

We have this bookcase from Vertbaudet which is white but they also have other styles which come in different colours.

Millie1 · 22/03/2011 21:57

Thanks for all the suggestions. Had looked at and discounted Aspace (mixed reviews) but will have a look at the other links now and see if I can come up with any ideas. Is that a no then for bookcase in a contrasting colour??

Sorry didn't really register your question. I can't see anything wrong with that idea - you can do anything you like in your own house! Nothing wrong with a bit of eclectic style.

MrsBloomingTroll · 23/03/2011 08:22

Why not a contrasting colour - the brighter the better, IMHO!

As for Aspace...we tried to buy some stuff from them. Customer service was fab but the items arrived (very) late, we had issues with the delivery (courier's fault) and the items arrived broken, in spite of their supposedly-rigorous QA checks. As I said, the customer service was lovely, but at no point did they offer any more than a heartfelt "sorry" for any of the problems. A discount of some kind was in order after all that, but they refused, so we cancelled the order. The furniture in their showroom looks great (albeit expensive) but I won't be buying from them. And this was very recently.

The great thing about painted furniture is that if your kids don't like the colour as they get older, they can repaint it to their taste. My parents let me do this when I was a teenager. Okay, it was in the 80s when red and black were all the rage, but still...

WhatsWrongWithYou · 23/03/2011 08:59

Scumble Goosie sell lovely ready-to-paint furniture. Or you can choose one of their F&B colours (costs extra). All made from wood and well-constructed , much prettier than the usual kids' furniture.
If you're near Gloucestershire, their showroom is a joy!

Millie1 · 23/03/2011 13:51

Oh that was a bad experience MrsB. Hope you got sorted out elsewhere?

Shall look at Scumble Goosie now Whatswrong, it sounds ideal!

Thanks

I know you say you have discounted Aspace, but we got the DDs bunk beds from there and they are gorgeous and have had so many compliments and they were actually quite reasonably priced. We paid extra to have them assembled for us and the delivery men were so polite, tidied up after themselves and did a really good job.

We have had a slight issue with the wardrobe as the door was damaged but the provided a new one straight away with no questions asked and it came and is fine.

MrsBloomingTroll · 23/03/2011 17:37

Yes thanks OP, we've just opted for some basic pine furniture in the end, bought from a company local to my parents.

Millie1 · 23/03/2011 21:19

Thanks for that positive review of Aspace whoneedssleep - maybe I'll have another browse! Scumble Goosie looked a bit pricey. Glad you got sorted MrsBlooming ... I'm also leaning towards something closer to home it's just the bookcase which is bugging me ... they have sooooo many books and I'd like to to match.
