What to wear on my feet

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm nearly 49 and have this difficulty every year at about this time.

You leave the house in the morning and it's chilly so..... still in my Whitestuff skirts and cardis with boots on feet. By lunchtime, it's warmed up considerably and I'm baking in my opaques and boots but.....I seem to have now't for my feet between said boots and sandals, which obviously can't come out now or my toes would drop off!

So, what can a mature lady wear on her feet BETWEEN boots and summer sandals?

Ideas anyone?

ballet pumps.

I have just switched this morning from school run in boots to ballet pumps. It's 15 degrees here today so plenty warm enough.

Alternatively, Converse or similar style of plimsoll (try Bensimon, Boden, I think even White Stuff may do a pair? )

Thanks tulpe....

Problem though, am a little on the plump side. Can I still do pumps or will I look like Bessie Bunter?

Also, do you wear the opaques with? Am clueless. My friend wears pumps but she's tall and slender and has legs that go on and on and on.....

wendihouse - what are your legs/ankles like?

If they are in good shape then any style of ballet pump will be fine. If they are heavier then go for a ballet pump with a decent sole - not chunky but one which is in proportion to your foot/ankle width, iyswim (ie not the really light and flimsy Top Shop/French Sole shoes but New Look will be your friend as they tend to have more round-toe styles which are naturally a slightly wider fit on the foot)

Opaques are fine - you will find they are not quite so uncomfortably hot minus the boots. You might also want to wear only cotton or merino opaques as they are cooler than the all-synthetic types.

You can wear them with ankle length leggings for cooler days and bare legs on warmer days.

I was very afraid of the ankle length legging given that I have a slight cankle: felt sure that combined with ballet flats they would emphasise my least favourite body part. However, encouraged by someone on here, I gave them a try a couple of years ago and it works beautifully. Very flattering and actually slims my legs down (and I really have heavy legs for my size). Another tip is to go for the longer length as a little ruching at the ankle can be very flattering.

I've got meaty thighs. My (dear) mother tells me my knees have had it! My calves and ankles are Ok. I'm 5ft 6" so, average, I guess.

Am off to be inducted at my local gym in half an hour so, it might not seem all SO awful after a few weeks' exercise!!!

Will browse the New Look pumps and do a flit around town.

Thanks!

Good lord. I was about to ask exactly the same question! I'd also been wondering about brogues, but fear on me they'd be more 'clumpy lesbian' than 'quirky librarian'.

I have the cankle issue, also, so am cheered by tulpe's various legging solutions.
