Ok so can you help me?

I have bought this dress to wear to a friend's wedding at the end of April.

I love it, I am only 5 feet 2 inches, and it really makes me look taller. I am a size 8 to 10, but am pregnant, and will be 5 months + at the wedding. The dress drapes beautifully over the (already quite sizeable, thanks DC2) bump.

I need some help with a wrap / cardi / something to go over for the evening or if it's chilly.

Also, I would like to wear flat sandals with it, and it will therefore need to be taken up, but it's a kind of stretchy jersey fabric, so I wouldn't want to do it myself in case I messed it up. Any idea how much it would cost to get someone to do it for me?

How about this for a cover up?

Can't help re cost of taking it up as I always do this myself. I think most dry cleaners have this service though, can't imagine it would be hugely expensive - maybe check Johnsons (or other) cleaners website?

MrsSeanBean · 21/03/2011 11:25

Johnsons cleaners do alterations but no prices given on site.

hmm, aren't waterfall jackets/cardis frowned on here? Wink The dress is actually a kind of pale lilac colour, I'm not sure white would go. I was thinking dark brown actually, but would that be too heavy?

Oh ok, I thought it looked white (dodgy screen!)

It's not VERY waterfall though, and I think in pregnancy, surely, one would be exempt from MN censure in this respect?

MrsSeanBean · 21/03/2011 12:01

PS Not sure about dark brown and lilac.

pookamoo · 21/03/2011 12:02

he he I hope so, given that I am wearing DH's jumper today!

don't know why I thought dark brown, maybe navy-is to pick out some of the flower colours?

No I'm having a mental block re lilac too Grin. How about silver? Hopefully someone else will come along soon!

MrsSeanBean · 21/03/2011 12:07

Or you could go bold and accentuate the 'poppy' colour. Normally I would hesitate over lilac and red, but as it's in the dress anyway it must look ok.

pookamoo · 21/03/2011 12:27

It's more of an orangey red, I suppose. Could do, though. The wedding is at a botanical garden, so I thought it was appropriate!

V appropriate :)

FauxFox · 21/03/2011 12:35

green?
orange?
purple?

I would go for a fitted style as with the maxi and your height a long cardi will prob swamp you...

WhatsWrongWithYou · 21/03/2011 12:45

That's a lovely dress for a wedding.

I wouldn't worry about trying to 'match' the lilac - as you said, aim to pick out a colour from the print and you won't go wrong, as long as the colour suits your skin tone.

The boleros are a great idea, keeping your arms warm and setting off the dress. I like the green best as I think the style suits the delicacy of the dress. But there's loads in the shops atm, so it's a matter of trying a few on.

I think a waterfall would swamp both you and the dress, and it's okay to show off your bump these days isn't it?

MrsSeanBean · 21/03/2011 13:46

I linked to a cropped 'waterfall' (in a very loose sense - really just exaggerated lapel) jacket. But I agree bolero is good.

I am feeling defensive today for some reason (sorry!) but I refused to be labelled a waterfall aficionado (in the per una sense anyway) Grin

scotsgirl23 · 21/03/2011 14:14

If you are getting it shortened I'd make sure the person taking it up actually pins it when you are wearing it - and leave it until relatively close to the wedding as you'll probably find your bump will make it shorter at the front than the back if it's the same length all round

Second the bolero recommendations, I'd keep your coverup quite neat with a maxi dress.

pookamoo · 21/03/2011 14:28

MrsSeanBean has been very helpful, I was only teasing about the waterfall - I do actually have a waterfall cardi in my cupboard! Wink
