Do you ever return to your pre-baby clothes size???

I had ds1 in early December and still can't get into any of my old clothes...was a size 8 prior to getting pregnant. From experience, does your body ever return to its previous size, or should I be investing in new clothes?!

It's early days! Give yourself a chance. Get a few things to tide you over. Fwiw, with ds1, a year later I was back in the old clothes (with noe dieting, etc). Ds2, I am pretty much there now, 10 mths on.

Patience, my dear, patience. Smile

I lost the weight - and more! Breastfeeding a very big hungry baby did it for me.

However my shape has changed - possibly forever :(

CuppaTeaJanice · 21/03/2011 09:24

Yes, you will return to size 8. It usually takes longer than 4 months though unless you are a sleb and have personal trainers etc., so don't beat yourself up about it just yet!

It didn't take me long to get back to one size bigger than previously, but I didn't lose the last few pounds to get into my tightest old clothes until I made the mistake of googling medical stuff about DS and scared myself silly so I could hardly eat for two weeks.

clarkykitten · 21/03/2011 09:27

I have pretty much returned to where I was. Really quickly with DS (by about 6 months) and I'm about there now after DD, she's 10 months. I'm a size 8-10. The only thing I would say is my belly's bigger and I have a bit more loose skin than before, so my shape has changed a bit.

BlackSwan · 21/03/2011 09:33

Yes but it took me between 6-9 months. Back in my size 25 jeans...ok they're a tiny bit snug. Don't buy too many new clothes. I have jeans in size 27 and 29 in my wardrobe which I don't wear now.

Yes - but it took me six years Shock. Went back to a 14 very quickly with BF DD1, then gained because of eating too much antidepressants for PND, then got bigger still with DD2, then went on mega-diet-plan thingy and am now smaller than pre-children. It can be done! My waist isn't what it was - I'm a bit straighter in the middle than I used to be - but am a size 10/12 these days.

Meglet · 21/03/2011 10:42

Not after 3 months! Don't chuck out your old clothes just yet though!

Try 2 years with gym, stress and IBS Grin.

higgle · 21/03/2011 10:56

As everyone else says, you will get back to the same size but will probably be a different shape. My ribcage is premanantly larger, think it all expanded and neverwent back.

AllTheGoodOnesAreTaken · 21/03/2011 11:01

I have, and it only took me 6 years Wink

bronze · 21/03/2011 11:02

I never did. My body shape has changed completely. I've gone from no hips small boobs to very wide hips and bigger boobs.

On the other hand my stomach is looking pretty good (well not fat anyway) and I have had three children since and gone back to how I got to after my first each time.
I just won't ever get my bones back to where they were when I was 21

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/03/2011 11:05

Yes and with each pregnancy it got easier or rather I got more determined.

So 3 dc's down the line and am the same size/weight as I was 20 years ago. However boobs are not the same - same bra size but they have shifted downwards.

Has taken a lot of effort though and I have to be very disciplined.

But you are still very early days - I reckon it can take a year to really get back to normal.

orangina · 21/03/2011 11:06

Ditto higgle w the ribcage. Will never be the same.

MarshaBrady · 21/03/2011 11:08

Yes pretty much same size. I have to eat loads less carbs to reach same results which is fine actually as good for energy levels and good mood.

Used to be able to eat anything but that's not great in any case.

MrsSeanBean · 21/03/2011 11:13

My boobs stayed much larger/heavier. I used to be 32B and am now 32E. I now have to wear industrial strength scaffolding style bra all the time. Angry

I also have a horrible 'pouch' on my stomach which nothing will shift. :(

Apart from that, same size as always.

otchayaniye · 21/03/2011 11:14

Yes, I was a size 10 before first, went up to a 14, back to a 12 a couple of months after, now 20 weeks pregnant back to an 8 (thanks to sickness) which is what I was when I was in my 20s.

Tits never went quite back down to size but I've been breastfeeding for what seems like years.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 21/03/2011 11:16

I never put much effort into it but I ate the same healthy diet I always have (apart from early bf, when I gorged Smile) and continued to exercise and it came off by itself.
I think a lot of people who have trouble, the problem is that they do less exercise after the baby and snack more because they're tired and at home, rather than any hormonal thing that makes the weight stay on.

HappyAsIAm · 21/03/2011 12:31

I ahve lost the weight, but my shape has changed. My back is wider and my boobs are smaller! It took a real effort to lose the weight, as I've never tried to lose weight before and I hadn't realised how difficult it would be to stay so focussed and be disciplined.

You're in the early stages though - be easy on yourself!

Geocentric · 21/03/2011 12:35

It took me about a year, first time round. Without doing any extra exercise or dieting . Second time round was a lot quicker because I had a toddler to chase at the same time. Grin

NinkyNonker · 21/03/2011 12:42

I'm smaller than I was, took a few months. God bless breastfeeding hungry babies! Grin

Still have a slightly saggy tummy though, 7 months on.

Icoulddoitbetter · 21/03/2011 12:43

I was back into my old clothes very quickly after DS, then put weight on as I ate so much in the first year! But, I'm still wearing the clothes I was pre-DS now, though like everyone else I think I'm a different shape. Bigger boobs (still BF), and my never-flat tummy has a little pouch as I had a CS. I def think BF was what lost the weight / kept most of the weight off me.

I'm now pg again, and at 8 weeks my (albeit smallest) pair of jeans are becoming too tight for me already. I'm not sure what this pg is going to do to my body but I like to think I'll shrink back again. I do accept though that I'll always have lots of floppy bits but I can cover those up with clothes so don't care too much!

DolceeBanana · 21/03/2011 14:31

Oh, it's very early days for you, but yes, you should return to pre-pregnancy size. You will need to be sensible in these early days, especially if you are breastfeeding, to make sure you eat enough calories.

I have 3 DCs, and weigh the same as I did in my teens. Has meant some discipline, and caution, but am slim, fit and healthy. You will get there!

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 21/03/2011 15:55

make sure you get a few nice things in the larger size because if you're trying to squeeze into things that don't fit you'll feel like you're fat even if you're actually a perfectly healthy size, but don't throw away the old stuff!

AnMum · 21/03/2011 19:13

Thanks all, feel a lot better now! Roll on the warmer weather for lots of walking!!

Ormirian · 21/03/2011 19:14

I got lower by a size, nearly 2. But it took concerted effort and nearly 18m
