Black jeans ??

In process of reviewing my jeans needs for spring.

Think I know what I'm going to do on shapes/ cut, and I'm definitely getting more dark blue/ blue black denim. But wondering whether to get any black jeans to replace the straight legs I currently have.

I qute like the general idea of black in summer, and have already bought some black Boden capris which seem to fit well. But they're for summer and I need jeans for now.

What do the stylish think of black denim - a no-no or OK??

ha! I don't know if I classify as stylish but I love black jeans, specially Levi's. The usual number to go for is 501, but if you can get to a Levi's store there are lots you can try, my favourites being 511. Black Levi's with a red and white stripy top looks great :o)

I will only wear black jeans. I hate blue denim jeans.

I think you have to have a great figure to look good in skinnies, but maybe polyhumnia does!

Sorry for thread mini-hi-jack - but what are the boden capris like? I really want some black capri trousers and went in search of the Gap ones - but they had sold out ...

I'm a big fan of black trousers. Uniqlo do heavy-duty black cotton, though I would stop short of calling them black jeans - Emanuelle's are what I'd think of as black jeans. For some reason, nice-fitting black jeans are hard to track down, I've found.

I have Uniqlo at the moment BUT I find they're big around the hips (for me). ie. to get them over my calves, they're roomy around waist and hips. I'm clearly a weird shape! Point is - a lot of people have the opposite problem, and so may find them the ideal shape.

Will watch this thread with interest - would love recommendations for good black jeans - as opposed to black trousers.

I have some skinny black jeans, they're pretty useful. Good old Primarni.

Kione · 19/03/2011 15:33

animula do you mean blck skinnies? because I' recommend (as above) go to a Levi's store, they have lots of different shapes. I am wearing them since I was 14, they have all sorts f colours too, I think they are just a classic.

Topshop Leah for my black skinnies. About £35 I think. They are more cotton feeling than denim. Uber comfortable and very useful - esp with long cardigans.

Many thanks for the comments so far. In fact, it was black skinnies I was thinking of investing in.

Not only would I not approach the stylishness of Mme Alt, I do not, alas, have a 'great figure'. If only! But I am tall with very long, quite slim legs and I do already have dark grey and dark blue skinnies which both I and my husband think suit me. I always wear with a tunic, so covering my large, if hourglass, body and emphasisng my best feature. Or so I like to believe!

Think I'll go ahead with the black skinnies. Keep the recommendations, etc coming, as it seems there are other black denim enthusiasts out there.

On Boden capris, animula, they do seem to suit me - not as baggy in crotch and thigh as some Boden trousers tried this season. And the material is quite nice - not too thick, not too thin. But I haven't worn them for a day, as opposed to trying them on yet. More to the point, as you'll see from above description, our figure types are probably completely different and whether trousers fit well or not is such an individual thing.

I got some black straight-leg jeans (which are pretty skinny at the top but a little wider on the calf) in Gap.

NinkyNonker · 19/03/2011 21:46

You sound similar to me Poly, I too am not the skinniest of minnies but have good legs and I find that skinnies can be very flattering. I wear my black ones a lot.
