Need a smart jacket to put with jeans/heels

DH has got an informal work dinner which a few of the OHs have been invited to (eek!).

Thought I'd be ok in smart jeans & heels, but struggling with the upper half.

My first idea was a smart 3/4 sleeve jacket or something?

What do you ladies think?

Hobbs do good 50s style jackets. Haven't looked recently, but it is pretty much their staple product. Zara are good for fashion-friendly jackets (the 80s-style blazer - roomy, with turned up sleeves - is currently making a come-back).

Are you absolutely sure about this? And how long do you have to look?

I ask because finding the great (right look, right price) jacket-that-looks-great-with-jeans can be hard work. If you have a short time-scale or a limited budget it may be easier to find a dress.

See your point animula - prob is I look crap in dresses!! I've got about 2 weeks...!

I don't know if this is the sort of thing you had in mind, but I like it:
Jigsaw Bersey Blazer.

MrsSeanBean · 20/03/2011 12:05

D'oh what is wrong with me today - JERSEY

fedupandfifty · 20/03/2011 12:09

I think a Chanel-type jacket would look good with jeans and heels. I can't do links, but the sort of thing I mean is short in the body with a round neck.

berri · 20/03/2011 12:47

Clure I couldn't open your Oasis links but liked the New Look one...

Mrs SB, yes that's the kind of thing I was thinking - I like the buttons. Mind you I'm not sure about the shorter length ones, for those of us that are blessed in the arse area, sometimes shorter ones seem to emphasise my hips?

Would one a bit like this look too work-y?

topshop

Berri, Topshop one is nice. It is a bit workwear maybe, but quite classic and the sort of thing you could easily 'style down'.

Personally, I think that shorter jackets can work well for 'pear' shapes, as it emphasis a waist/ curves - whereas if you wear a longer jacket you can run the risk of just looking like a large rectangle.

berri · 20/03/2011 13:09

PMSL at large rectangle, haha. Yes, don't want that look!

I should look in Hobbs too actually, still have my Red card to use...

withagoat · 20/03/2011 13:10

Clure · 20/03/2011 13:54

try oasis link again!

Clure · 20/03/2011 13:57

bugger
go to www.oasis-stores.com go to jackets and coats and its called "ponte jacket" £65

berri · 20/03/2011 14:04

I definitely like that one Clure - the slightly lower neck makes it more casual than worky, but still smart. Good find! Might go and try it on this week.

Mrs Sean, you're a star - have been looking for something a la Joseph Emmanuelle, without the price tag and that Jigsaw one looks just the ticket :)

MrsSeanBean · 20/03/2011 15:29

Basana - glad to be of assistance :)

MikeRotch · 28/03/2011 18:47

geordieminx · 28/03/2011 18:57
