Does it make a difference? have been reading a US blog which says its just about the most important thing you can do to make your hair great. Trouble is that it costs a fortune to buy aveda. The blog recommended children's shampoos but have just looked at 3 varieties in the bathroom and they all have SLS.
My hairdresser will give me 20 percent off a litre bottle of aveda but its still £35 for the shampoo and the same for the conditioner.

I do curly girl method and while I occasionally use shampoo (low poo) and mainly (non dimethicone, paraben free) conditioner as a wash I find having switched to no nasties has made a huge difference to my ringlety (which wasn't showing when using SLS shampoo) coarse/yet fine dry hair. Amazing difference.

It will not give you the same feeling of cleansing and lathering that SLS does, you feel you have to use loads and repeat. But you don't. Some I find can make the hair feel straw like.

There are loads of non SLS shampoos at cheap price points. Boots Naked (I don't like it though), Jason (I think), Waitrose Organic, Louise Galvin, loads, in fact.

Check out the BritishCurlies.co.uk forum and there's a list on there and where to buy.

You do not have to chuck money down the Aveda drain!

Waitrose is another good place for SLS free shampoos. I avoid SLS, parabens etc. in all my skin care and hair care products.

Be careful of the other ingredients that are just as harmful. Might be useful to look at wikipedia before spending your money.

I got some of the Body shops new Eco range and it appears to be free of everything. Again, less lather, but a 2nd shampoo with just a little product does the trick for me.

For opposite reasons, I hate Boots Naked (made my hair really dry) and Waitrose Organic (slimey, made my hair really greasy).

Various members of my family swear by the "Yes to Carrots" or "Yes to Tomatoes" range which can be found on various websites. I've not tried them because they contain Dead Sea Water, which I assume by it's very nature contains Salt and I have had a Brazilian blow dry so am supposed to avoid that. But I have used their SLS free shower gel which is really nice, smells lovely and comes in a gigantic bottle for somewhere around £8.

I've also got the Body Shop shampoo, really lovely and no nasties. About £4 - £6 a bottle.

Look here or here they both do free delivery which makes the products really affordable and easy to see what youre paying up front and they do free samples to try for next time! I highly recommend lavera or green people if you are on a budget
