Denim shorts for ds - frayed look ok?

DS1 (5.9) has got 3 pairs of jeans with a hole in the left knee which I'm going to cut doen into shorts for him.

Will it be ok to just cut them and leave the bottoms as they are, or will I need to hem them?

Marvellous - I was hoping that you'd say that but as I'm not at all stylish I didn't want to commit a fashion faux pas on his behalf!
