Hair in convertible car

So, summer is almost upon us and I shall have to get my little car out of winter hibernation this weekend.

Last year I kept my hair in place with a large elastic band with a jaunty flower on - cheapy from New Look. It held my hair lovely, but left me with unsightly red ridge across my forehead.

What is there I could use instead? I don't fancy a hat for two reasons.... one, they have a habit of blowing off at speed and, two, they give me flat hat hair after a few mins.

It's also a safety issue... I don't want hair in my eyes when driving obv.

Ha ha I used to have a convertible and I have very long hair. At first I thought I would come over all Mary Quant and tried the scarf / sunglasses combo. Scarf blew off in the first 5 minutes, I was blinded by hair, and ended up looking like a birds nest.

After that it was a bun every time!

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/03/2011 20:42

I tie it back. I've had wind deflectors fitted but it only helps it doesn't cure the problem.

trixymalixy · 17/03/2011 20:43

I wear a scarf!

MitchiestInge · 17/03/2011 20:44

I just put mine up and or wear the horrific baseball cap - or keep speed below 50mph Shock and windows up

can you fit a windbreak behind front seats or is it a 4 seater?

thenightsky · 17/03/2011 20:44

Mine is a bob, so not long enough to tie back, but long enough for the ends to whip painfully across my eyeballs

I don't think a wind break would work in my car as the seats are tight against the back IYSWIM.

I too have an horrific old baseball hat, but I find that flies off a bit too easy.

And yes... I do end up staying under 50 mph

can't you clip/kirby grip the sides, just when driving? Alice band?

thenightsky · 17/03/2011 21:12

Alice band sounds an idea.

I wear a silk liberty print scarf. I probably look a bit of a knob but it's all part of the dream y'know

geordieminx · 17/03/2011 21:17

Scarf, band, or sunglasses to keep it out of my eyes.

trixy how the devil are you? You working tomorrow?

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 17/03/2011 21:46

Good thanks Geordie! Unfortunately I am working tomorrow, but then off to the canaries for 2 weeks, canny wait!!!!

Is there a meet up tomorrow? Are you on holiday?

geordieminx · 17/03/2011 22:01

Oh sounds fab, we are off to Tenerife in May.

Yy to meet up at tramway.

Have a fab time!

cowboylover · 17/03/2011 22:06

There are some nice wide fabric/lace Alice bands out this season so worth a look at them if the are wide enough on you.

Oh the joys of fun hobbies! I get helmet hair with the bike so would love to take it off looking all sexy and glam not like I have been dragged thro a bush!!

trixymalixy · 17/03/2011 22:21

Shame, I miss working part time and going to meet ups.

CointreauVersial · 17/03/2011 23:41

Our wind deflector is amazing, my hair hardly ruffles!

I remember a long-ago ex-BF who drove an MG.....I never did master the art of stylish top-down travel....

geordieminx · 18/03/2011 08:16

We looked at wind deflectors... Until we realised ds would have to sit in the boot Grin

What car you got trixy

thenightsky · 18/03/2011 10:34

My little car is on my profile pics.

It's tiny, but cute.

Sadly it is very unreliable too Sad Hence me keeping it for summer only.

Don't wear sticky lip gloss either.

You'll end up with your hair attached to your lips and choking on a hairball for the rest of the day.

thenightsky · 18/03/2011 10:39

LOL.. learned the lipgloss lesson years ago! Grin

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 18/03/2011 10:45

I have long hair, which I tie back, and a baseball cap. It is a Bugatti branded baseball cap - I suspect that makes it even worse Grin

It does mean I can wear lipgloss however. I never go topless without lipgloss.

trixymalixy · 03/04/2011 17:12

this is our car Geordie. It's a 1958 karmann ghia. The interior has been restored since those pics were taken though, so looks much nicer now.

Wearing a headscarf is de rigeuer in a classic car though!!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 03/04/2011 17:38

If I wear a headscarf I look more Hilda Ogden than Grace Kelly, though :(

maddy68 · 03/04/2011 19:18

mine is a 2 seater and I have a wind deflector fitted which attaches to the two headrests shop.mercedes-benzofmiltonkeynes.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1029

and i keep the windows up, my hair barely moves
