I know there are constraints for the lens sizing - but has anyone seen anything a bit bigger than normal?

I found some amazing ones in my local optician, big Armani bug-eyed lovely things. The lenses needed to be 1cm thick though!! After thinning them down they were down to 0.8mm at the sides which would've been OK but the price went up to £400Smile.

They could do Ray-Bans etc. basically anything for a price.

TracyK · 17/03/2011 13:53

Thanks Morag - did you get them in the end?

I've seen some nice ones in House of Frasers - Chanel or Bulgari - about £175-£200 but then I needed to add in the cost of the tint (instead of the cost of the lens - I was a bit hmmm) - so not sure what the total price was going to end up as.

I know I can get the Oakley ones - again for £230 ish) - but not really the style I was after.

I might google Armani!

The £400 was with a £75 discount and I'd just bought two pairs of proper specs. I needed to think about it!
I possibly may go back for them as I need them (I have pterygium) but it seemed alot at the time. I think the frame was £175 too so it was all lens and tint costing £££.

I know what you mean about wanting the bigger shape. I have smaller ones from a few years ago that just look wrong now.

Save up and don't buy the OakleysWink

Have you had a look in boots? Saw some last week and they were certainly as big (if not bigger) than I would want; but maybe not as big as current fashin.

TracyK · 17/03/2011 15:40

I need the bigger shape to cover the area around my eyes/cheeks that are getting wrinkly!

Thanks starfish - I'll have a look at Boots too.

I got some lovely Lulu Guinness ones in Boots last week - £139 including lens. They are quite glammy these but I got them in brown

I think they are nice!

mollymole · 17/03/2011 17:05

in the place where i work you can go really large - i know i have some BUT you have to be prepared to pay a premium for the lenses - please remember that a 'curve' will cost more to glaze than a flat and the specs with the lens as one 'wrap around' piece cannot be prescription glazed

TracyK · 17/03/2011 17:27

ooh they are nice upthehill - did you get prescription lenses for the £139??

I wonder where my biggest boots is??

I know the 1 piece wrap arounds can't be prescription - but it only seems to be recently that curve=achievable but at a price, whereas last year curve=a no-no!

Yes - prescription lenses though I do not have a strong one - about 1.5 in both eyes.

I tried on a few wrap around styles but they were too sporty. Really liked these ones and they had a good choice - had to narrow it down from 3 - which was a good thing.

Assistant very helpful and I had a pal to help with the final decision - would recommend Boots.

moragbellingham · 27/03/2011 10:00

Prescription sunglasses are half price in Boots now with some voucher you can get at the till.

moragbellingham · 27/03/2011 20:25

these ones are a little pricey though!!!!!!!

Chocamochalatte · 27/03/2011 23:40

Shop around, I bought Karen Milland sunglasses from an outlet store then took them to an opticians tomput lenses in... The frames were £16, and the lenses cost £50... Plus I have a really strong prescription and have to have them made thinner...

Chocamochalatte · 27/03/2011 23:41

Obviously that should be 'Karen Millen' not what the iPad changed it to!

maize · 27/03/2011 23:46

Def Boots, I have some own brand prescription sunglasses from them that have a big lens and are pretty stylish. Only £70 including the prescription lens iirc. Everywhere else was very very expensive.

NellieForbush · 28/03/2011 16:29

specsavers have some and they are part of their BOGOF. But you have to have ask for them (in our store anyway) as they keep the really big ones behind the counter.
