I am VV pale and want to get a spray tan

Is it possible? I only want to be a bit darker so I can bare my legs while I am away in Spain next month.

Will I turn out like a satsuma? What spray tans are recommended?

I too am VV pale and want to get a spray tan but I'm also old and have bags under my eyes, so I await with eager anticipation.......

I would also like to know the answer to this. Went to Greece last summer and looked like a mushroom in my bikini - not v flattering.

I'm very pale and have avoided fake tans after a dodgy dale-winton-esque result from a spray booth a few years ago (I spent four days looking like I'd been tangoed and then about a week looking like I had some awful patchy skin condition as it washed off)

When getting waxed the other day I noticed that my (also very pale) beautician was a little browner than usual and when I asked if she'd been on holiday she laughed and showed me some fake tan she uses called hi-she or he-shi or something like that. It looked very natural and not at all orange. It's a cream and apparently really easy to use and much better than any she's used before.

I'm v pale too and had a spray tan about 3 years ago with horrendous results! Don't do it!!

I use a gradual self tan instead like St Tropez or L'Oreal nutri-summer. Much safer :)

chummum · 16/03/2011 14:14

Boots no7 do a good pale gradual build up non-streaking body cream and a separate one for face. It's not expensive (very good when they do 3 for 2), no need to exfoiliate either.

I tried a fake bake spray tan once. The next day my DS said "mummy, why are you orange"!!!

I have had a tan done in an automatic tanning booth that was fab though so I think it is all about making sure the shade isn't too dark.

St tropez spray tan applied by a beautician has always given me excellent results.

But depends on how good the beautician is really.

Northumberlandlass · 16/03/2011 15:19

I have v fair skin and got fake baked last winter. I thought I looked bizarre, but got a lot of "oo have you been skiing" comments....

The tan I had for my wedding was Clarins, professionally applied. It was lovely, a much more sun kissed look.

I've only done all over fake tan twice, for when I was being a bridesmaid in a strapless dress. Being vv pale, I did St Tropez applied by a beautician, and it worked perfectly. They said spray tan wasn't good if you are pale

Prunnhilda · 16/03/2011 15:26

I'm pale too (grey by this stage of winter) but I wouldn't consider it - the northern light makes it look either orange or mahogany, depending. It's just not natural-looking, ever.

MrsBloomingTroll · 16/03/2011 17:59

Am also very pale and went for a spray tan a few years back. It looked very fake and wore off very, very fast.

Sorry!

bacon · 16/03/2011 18:03

Looks fab if done by a good salon, it wont look orange at all. The spray is adjusted to suit your complextion so no worries there.

I'm pale - I also try to do a facial tan once a week with the creams. First day looks dark but 2nd day healthy!

tiredemma · 16/03/2011 18:07

I have had a couple of spray tans but always end up with almost dark brown soles of my feet which make it look obvious that I have had a spray tan. ANy suggestions on how I can avoid this?

BelieveInLife · 16/03/2011 19:02

Absolutely plaster your feet in moisturiser beforehand tiredemma and exfoliate really well for at least a week before you go.

I'm a trained therapist and the formulation of St Tropez does mean that it is won't have an orange tint to it and doesn't take you to a particular shade of darkness iyswim...will only go as dark as your skin would naturally go anyway.

MillsAndDoom · 16/03/2011 19:34

Fake tan applied manually by a beauty therapist is far better than a spray IME

AmpleBosom · 16/03/2011 19:41

I'm a nice shade of blue normally, i had a fake bake spray tan apllied by a professional. It looked really good and natural.

BelieveInLife · 16/03/2011 19:42

Yes definitely. Sprays are quick, but other than that having nothing going for them imo.
