Personal shoppers/style advisors?

What's the crack then with style advisors like the ones in John Lewis that offer the free service? Do you have to spend a minimum amount in there when they present you with stuff to try on?

I'm back at work and attempting to lose weight but I'm on and off the wagon with it more than you can imagine so I need help figuring out what my body shape is and how to dress it.

Ive got someone to take a picture of me in my non matching underwear so I could try and tell but I can't see past the flaws (also known as my overhang and thunder thighs)

They are very nice IME and no obligation to buy AFAIK. Why not ring them up and ask them the question?

Have you tried the trinny & Susanna apple/brick/hourglass etc thing?

Good idea, thank you. I'll get on it tomorrow.

Have you had a personal shopper advisor person before?

Yes. I am utterly rubbish at choosing clothes (equivalent of colour blind I think) and pushed for time. Have used Debenhams and John Lewis (more expensive!). I was sceptical but they picked out some lovely things that suited me well and I would not have picked up myself.

It is a nice experience IME, you get to have a cuppa and some privacy while they go and get things, obviously if it doesn't fit/suit/you don't like it, they then go and get some more until you end up with a rail of things that are good, then you decide which ones to buy, if any. I know some people had bad experiences but each time I've had decent clothes which I've worn a lot. And you can take things back if you change your mind just as usual.

IIRC I spent about £220 for three outfits last time in JL.

I had a personal shopper in Selfridges a few years ago, really recommend it. Went in the week so a lot quieter than Saturdays. Very helpful and they chose lots of clothes from the high st section they have on the ground floor, think I had about £250 to spend, and got loads. If I remember correctly it would cost £50 but only if you didn't spend that, ie free if you bought clothes worth over that.

When were you at Selfridges bogle? I think they have either changed their policy or I went to wrong bit (was in the designer section IIRC?). I went to try and book an appointment but they turned their nose up at the £500 voucher DH had v. generously given me for my 30th and said there was a £1000 min spend Shock

This was nearly three years ago so rules may have changed since then of course.
