I have money to spend and desperately need new clothes, at the moment im living in 1 pair of leggings, 1 pair of jeans and 4/5 tops.

Im sick of it and need something new. The problem i have is that i hate shopping at the moment, I cant find anything I think will look nice on me and when I do try things on I feel horrid.

I used to be so fashionable and feel good about myself but i never do any more. I really need a whole new wardrobe of outfits suitable for school run/toddler groups/lunches with friends that are practical fashionable and suit me.

Please give me some suggestions of outfits for a fat 24 year old mum of 2

Why don't you book yourself in for a personal shopping experience at somewhere like Debenhams?

I went with a friend some years ago - it is free, and they take you to a private changing room, bring you coffee, and loads of clothes on rails for you to try on.

They ask you what sort of things you like, what sort of things you do - ie school run, toddler group etc.

It is good fun.

what size and shape are you?
what is the budget?

what shops do you like?

i felt the same as you after i'd had my first. i didn't want to go and buy stuff cos i was fatter than i wanted to be.
it was kind of a good incentive to lose weight. i got myself a few basics to tide me over, and then worked on getting my weight down til i was happier and then i enjoyed shopping and spending my money a whole lot more :-D

def agree with personal shopper type thing, they'll get you to try stuff you wouldn't necessarily have picked yourself and you might be surprised!

thanks frogs might give that a go might see if my mum fancies it as would feel better not being on my own i think.

carrie I dont really have a budget in mind if i find something i feel happy in i'll buy it. i think im an apple shape quite big chest and im large round my stomach but ok bum and legs therefor find it hard to find jeans/trousers :(

my jeans are a 16 but leave a small muffin top when first washed and are baggy after being worn for half an hour or so i would say im a 16/18 on top

how about a nice tunic, leggings and sandals/pumps

then a couple of dreeses, maybe an empire line one and then a wrap around one?

Tillyscoutsmum · 15/03/2011 21:16

You sound really down Sad. A large chest isn't a bad thing and large round the tummy is pretty normal after a couple of dc's.

Definitely get yourself a personal shopper at somewhere like John Lewis or Debenhams. JL have a wider selection of jeans and a decent pair of well fitting jeans will make a load of difference. My stomach is my problem area and Gap sexy bootcut fit me well. I also like 7 for all mankind.

Anything with ruching on is flattering. V necks or cowl necks are great with big norks. I also wear lots of leggings and tunic tops. I like White Stuff for tunics (but I am much older than you so they may not be your thing)

Undertone · 15/03/2011 21:26

Jeans will make you feel horrid if you're larger than you normally are. Especially as jeans for size 16 ish ALWAYS seem to do that tight after washing/baggy 5 mins later thing. They never fit properly.

I find nice skirts that 'go out' without being too 40s-ish, and come down to the knee, are an absolute godsend for flattering a figure and avoiding problem areas. Nice knee-high practial boots from Duo (for wide calves) and bingo - bottom half sorted and pretty.

Gillybobs · 15/03/2011 21:44

Im a 16 apple shape and I love these tunics from DOrothy Perkins, would look great with leggings and most would hide your least favourite bits well.

I think fab shoes can really make you feel great, I love Top Shop shoes, they are always trendy and make me feel more stylish, I love these and Ive just treated myself to these

scotsgirl23 · 15/03/2011 22:21

Don;t beat yourself up if jeans don't work - for some people, they just don't! If I'm anything other than my slimmest they all look rubbish.

Dresses/tunics/skirts can be far more forgiving and flattering.

I would also say fab shoes - I've yoyo'd so much but fab shoes are like faithful friends and always cheer me up!

Oh, and this might be obvious BUT if you are busty get a GOOD bra fitting. By this I do not mean marks and spencer - bravissimo, rigby & peller, john lewis are normally ok too. If they try to do everything with a measuring tape then run away! A well fitted bra makes you look inches smaller.
