I Detest Low Rise Jeans!

trinni · 14/03/2011 17:40

Please help me find something comfortable.

My shape is a pretty standard size 8-10 but with a bit of a gut overhang and thighs plumper than I would like - 5' 3" tall.

My specific requirements are...
Not low rise
Dark denim
Thigh hugging and tight(ish) at the knees
Gentle boot cut not a massive flare

Basically a nice flattering shape.

Do these jeans exist, or do I need to step back in time?

Oh and forgot to mention, a bit of stretch is good too!

Have you looked at M&S? I've bought a couple of pairs of theirs on Ebay recently and tho described as low rise, they almost sit on my waist. Or Gap/Next high-waisted?

trinni · 14/03/2011 17:48

Just looking on the M&S website now polly.

I have a pair of Gap bootcut and they're uncomfortably low waisted and non-stretchy - yuck!

Haven't checked Next yet. I hate shopping can't you tell?

I was hoping someone would pop up and say "buy these, they're just the job"!

Gap Long & Lean?

I love my Levis 627s which fulfill all of your criteria apart from the fact that they are not boot cut they have a straight let ( not skinny). Beautiful fit though, very bum flattering and thigh hugging and come up just below belly button.

trinni · 14/03/2011 17:50

Long and lean I'm definitely not!

I LOVE Levis but £££. Don't mention Levis!

I hate shopping too! If I find something I like and that fits well I just buy several and wear them to death......

trinni · 14/03/2011 17:52

Envy Levis!

I hate shopping for jeans especially. Invariably they don't fit and all that hauling on and off with shoes, jeans etc - just time consuming and I hate it!

I haven't shopped for jeans in several years, I shopped for trousers once, and cried in the changing room.

I buy now randomly from charity shops, and have some great trews, and the pressure is off as I just happen upon then them, rather than being in a search for them.

Skinnies don't fit me at all, I have thighs a size bigger than the rest of me. Most are too long, I'm a midget 5'2, boot cut make me look like I'm trying to be my mother, and anything in between looks all wrong.

trinni · 14/03/2011 18:05

I feel your pain Netto - are you me?

Today, I have pulled a pair of jeans from the back of a cupboard and worn them all day. I don't feel like unzipping them so I can breathe or changing into my trackies!

They're c 1991 M&S stretchy but horribly faded and a bit too short.

HavingKittens...Have just seen your Levis selling on ebay at £24.99. That can't be right surely? Last time I bought Levis they were 501's and cost £60ish back in the day!

I have Levis 629,which are the bootcut version.
Only jeans I have ever owned that fit me. Well worth the money.

trinni · 14/03/2011 18:45

Levis 629 do look nice - high waisted and slim looking.
Am just hunting on ebay now for a short-legged pair!

OP posts:
trinni · 14/03/2011 18:47

woopsidaisy can I ask...They're not too flappy/flared are they? Not a good look on a short person.

Be careful. I bought some on ebay and they were fake. They were cut nicely though but not the quality of denim that I expected.

I think they are about £70 new, although I got lucky with my last pair and got them in the sale for £32 after Christmas! I do live in jeans though and try to think of the cost on a price per wear basis. Not to mention on an "everytime I buy cheaper jeans they end up relegated to the back of the wardrobe because they never really fit properly" basis.

Sometimes it's a false economy because you end up having to replace the cheaper ones anyway. I have a really lovely looking pair from Zara, they are so uncomfortable to wear as for some reason they need hoiking up every 5 minutes. Same for another cheap pair of skinnies I bought before Christmas which looked great on. H&M jeans, great considering they were £10 in the sale but a bit knackered after only 6 months or so. Topshop jeans, after about 2 months I could pull them down without undoing them because they stretched out so much.

But, I do understand that if you don't have the money in the first place then there's only so much justifying the spend that you can do!

trinni · 14/03/2011 18:57

Shock at ebay!

I agree though that if you tend to live in jeans (as I do) it's worth investing.

It's only come to my attention recently though, just how uncomfortable most of my jeans actually are. I'm down to two pairs I can bear to wear now.

I think I've gained a bit of weight but really don't intend losing it at my age!!!

orienteerer · 14/03/2011 19:01

These are straight, not boot cut, but they are the best jeans I've found in ages, I'm planning to buy a second pair.

trinni · 14/03/2011 19:08

orienteerer, the reviews are good for these jeans. I think M&S might be worth a visit tomorrow. Thanks
