Can anyone recommend a good pilates DVD?

My devil child lovely son scratched the life out of my post natal pilates DVD so I am in need of a new one! Just wondering if there are any particular recommendations out there? I still have some separation of stomach muscles and back pain following the birth of my DD, she's now 10months.

The best - the absolute best - are Lynne Robinsons's Body Control Pilates series of DVD's.

Non scary woman, easily explained, short workouts...

Any others are just interlopers IME.

I have the Lynne Robinson Powerhouse one, 2 x 30mins workouts, all explained very well.
It is specifically for your core, I really enjoy doing it. Relaxes and stretches me out.

Ooh, thank you, will look into that one. Has anyone tried the 10 minute solutions one here? Or is it just wishful thinking that 10 mins a day will make a difference?!

I have the 10minute solution Blast off Belly Fat fast and in that there is a 10 minute Pilates section, it it really good but doesn't go into as much detail about breathing/zipping up etc
I suppose it depends on whether you need to know the basics etc.

barbieisaskinnybitch · 14/03/2011 14:28

clarky 10 mins a day of pilates will def make a difference if you're doing it right. You need a basics DVD then you can tune in to what you're supposed to be doing & alter the workout to be 10mins. Think I have one of Lynne's that has 10min segments anyway. Best thing about pilates is it doesn't make you sweaty so you csn do it & be done in 15/20mins :)

clarkykitten · 14/03/2011 14:33

Nice one. I did do one throughout pregnancy and also the post natal one, so I know the basics re form and breathing etc. I'm ready for the 'next level up' though now. Will def look into the ones suggested, thanks :)

Sorry for hijacking your thread Clarky but could you or anyone else advise on a good dvd for starting out and post natal? DD is 4 months old and I think I dvd would be ideal to do whilst she is napping. It's certainly more enticing than the ironing!

Thanks :)

clarkykitten · 14/03/2011 18:42

Hi lizardqueenie, I really rate 'Pilates for Mums' by Lindsey Jackson. That's the one my little boy scratched and it was really good. It has a multi level warm up then a section for right after birth (pelvic floor type stuff), then 2 further levels. I may buy it again, it is just that I have been using the final level for a while now so thought it might be worth getting a different DVD. It is quite slow (as all pilates DVDs tend to be), but it works and is made in conjunction with physios so I know the advice is spot on. Hope that helps!

is pilates just like callenetics?

stylenotfashion · 14/03/2011 18:44

Mine are a bit dusty lol

lizardqueenie · 14/03/2011 19:16

Thanks for that clarky I can confirm that 4 months on the pelvic floor definately took a bit of a battering! Will give it a bash.

lizardqueenie · 14/03/2011 19:27

And its ordered!

NNat, I was advised to do the exercises by my physio at when I saw her 4 months post birth due to continued back pain (I had SPD in pregnancy). She emphasised pelvic tilts, diaphramatic breathing and pelvic floor exercises and said a pilates video or class would be a good idea. I am actually due to see her again in the next few weeks, as it has been a while since I last went.

My stomach muscle separation isn't too bad - about 1 and a half - 2 finger tips or so. I'm mainly needing the exercises to support my back, which is still painful :( I wonder whether it may be worth you finding out if you have a woman's health physio who may be able to provide you with some guidance on exercise dos and don'ts? I'll certainly double check with mine if there are any specific moves I should be avoiding and will report back on what she says if you like?

Hope you find the DVD useful lizardqueenie!
