Do you go to the same beauty therapist and, does them being over familiar put you off?

Ive been going to the same person for the past couple of years and she's very good. She talks quite abit about her personal life and is very familiar. I didnt mind at first but Ive noticed that the past couple of times Ive been to her, its been a waste of money really. I treated myself to a massage the other day. Ive never had one before and expected to snooze off but she kept going on about stuff and I really thought it was a waste of time. Today I went for a facial and it was over in 30 mins.

Its happened to my friend as well, she's used the same hairdresser and spent £180 on her hair last week and you couldnt even tell the difference, she had to go back and was told "well, I wont charge you for redoing it this time!!"

Do you think you should change the people you go to every so often?

Yes I think you should spread yourself amongst a few. I hate it when they get too familiar and start taking advantage.

twoboots · 10/03/2011 22:18

i dont mind the banter, to me its just white noise and helps me doze off, i can sleep through a leg wax though.
i think having someone that does a good job is more important

kittya · 10/03/2011 22:19

the treatments just seem to be getting shorter though, if that makes sense.

I had a women who whilst spray tanning would be over complimentary on my boobs and as a result of concentrating on that area I ended up with a dramatically darker neck and chest. Was not a good look so decided it was time for a change.

twoboots · 10/03/2011 23:06

if the treatment is shorter and the same price its probably a reflection of the credit crunch. i would speak to the managment.

One of my friends was moving away and as a treat, hired someone to do our nails on the last day we met... crass mistake, the darn woman monopolised all the conversation, wouldn't stop talking so we didn't have time to catch up at all. I felt all the time like saying, I don't care about your neighbour sexual life, I don't care if the wife of the butcher is expecting sextuples, no...could you please shut up, finish our nails and GO??? no, you are not supposed to stay for lunch! what??? is she actually staying for lunch with us??? WHY WHY WHY she has finish, someone please open the door and kick her out! (AARRRGHHH) she stayed and make herself at home... some of us left before she could be removed from the sofa.

Shame on me, I know... it was really exasperating, honestly. Blush

twoboots, she is the manager!!

It is frustrating, I agree. I just will have to find someone else Sad

Doesn't it say on the menu how long each treatment lasts? Definitely time to change.

kittya · 11/03/2011 09:32

yes it does but even if you spend the allocated time in the room she spends that much time chatting she doesnt do it as good as usual.

For instance yesterday I had a treatment which had to be left on for at least an hour to work (it sounds shallow but I had a wrap for a party) and Ive had one before. Last time she measured me all over before and after so we could see the difference. There was none of that this time. And she left me on my own to go and do her shopping. With the curtains wide open so I couldnt relax. I sound as if I spend my days in beauty salons so, Im going to stop now Smile

Yeah, I stopped going to one for this reason. I'm not chatty at the best of times, least of all when someone's ripping the hairs out of my body - I prefer to be silent and stoic. this therapist was really good, but she would talk the whole way through, so much so that the appointment took longer than it should - a bit rubbish if you're trying to fit it into your lunchbreak.

I might either tell her, or switch to another beauty salon

BaggedandTagged · 11/03/2011 10:31

I just go to a place where they don't really speak English. Keeps banter minimal Grin

kittya · 11/03/2011 11:15

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Time for a change, then

Def time for a change.

Bristolcities Grin that made me laugh

wendihouse22 · 11/03/2011 12:50

Yes, make a change. She's very unprofessional especially whilst doing a massage.

You're supposed to be relaxing not listening to her news/gossip. Waste of money!!

Even at the hairdressers, I sometimes start my "do" informing her that I'm tired and not to be offended if I nod off.....in other words, don't chit chat endlessly to me. You won't get a reply.

kittya · 11/03/2011 13:07

You see I think it's to do with the fact that it was new at the beginning but now she's rushed off her feet she doesn't need to make a good impression, if that makes sense. My haidresser is going the same route.

I'm a beauty therapist and think your ladies have been really unprofessional. I was taught that we take our cue from the client, if she wants to talk all through her facial, well that's fine. If not we should respect that. It's common courtesy anyway!

I suppose you get know your clients as some treatments are ahem fairly personal! Wink But we are not best buddies and we should still try to make a good impression kittya shouldn't matter if old or new client. She is still paying for a service.

I've worked at weddings where the hairdresser seems to think she's part of the party! Usually the family are really friendly and offer drinks and snacks but I'm there to work! Sadly maelstrom I hear stories like yours regularly, ooh it makes me cross!!Angry
