New season stock is the exact same boring old trite that they've been trotting out for the past decade.

If ever a company needed a style makeover it's them. So uninspiring.

But their childrenswear is usually quite good-there's obviously some potential!!

Agree or get your flame on?

Yes, I totally agree. Our Next carries poor stock of boys' clothes and I found it hard to find anything I liked and ended up returning the items.

The kids' logo tops look like pyjama tops and their cheaper t-shirts have large logos on so plasticy that they may rustling noises when DS wears it.

For women, horrid flowery smocky tops (yes, I am wearing one from last season) and there was one I bought in the same for 7 quid back in at full price in their "latest in" section.

Staff are always bitching to each other and ignoring customers.

Today I overheard staff talking to the manager and he was telling them sales were so far down he was really worried. He also said they were having loads and loads of returns. I wanted to shout that they should stop selling crap and get a decent level of childrens' stock in FGS.

You are not alone.

ElsieMc · 10/03/2011 14:25

Sorry, that should have been in English. It should read "rustling" noises for the kids t-shirt and I bought the top in the "sale".

Littlepurpleprincess · 10/03/2011 14:33

Their womens clothes are very dull but I like some of the boys stuff. I got DS a pack 5 t shirts, with NO logos, in lovely summery pastel colours, 100% cotton, for about 9 quid. I also got him some really comfy, bright coloured tracksuit bottoms. It was just nice to find kids clothes that were actually suitable for little kids, instead of black jeans (which I know they sell as well) and horrible "I'm a pain in the arse" slogans.

MoonGirl1981 · 10/03/2011 14:48

Next stuff makes my boobs look odd.

I've no idea why.

Round here Next is where all of the chavs go.

BulletWithAName · 10/03/2011 14:56

I'd never wear the women's clothes as they are drab personified, but I bought my DD four lovely pairs of sandals from there in the summer.

sharbie · 10/03/2011 14:58

i got the green cardy for christmas - its falling apart at the seams will have to go back.

Everytime I walk through Next (my usual route back to my car) I rarely see anything that looks decent.
The girls dept always strikes me as miniature versions of adult clothes that are inappropriate for children.
Boys dept mediocre ,very rarely get anything for ds there except school trousers.

bethelbeth · 10/03/2011 16:07

In all honesty, I don't think it takes a great stretch of the imagination for Next to rectify their situation.
Even during a recession.

If they put their money into more well tailored and imaginative clothes instead of out and out horrible designs like the'I

The only thing I buy in Next for myself these days is the odd pair of jeans or linen trousers.

I am not keen on boys stuff for DS who is 7. Too many logos, too much camoflauge

DD who is 6 has the odd T-shirt and cardigan from there which are reasonably priced and washe well

hettie · 10/03/2011 17:26

oddly though they are incresing their profits- so some bugger is buying their (horid) clothes

miche8 · 11/03/2011 11:40

I quite like dull and mumsy clothes and even i'm finding it too boring. I seem to be buying less childrens wear too. I have also noted their staff all seem very unhappy and the store is always empty although i do go first thing after doing the school run.

The beautiful dark haired girl that models all the clothes doesn't look that great in quite a few outfits never a good sign if even she can't pull it off.

gregssausageroll · 11/03/2011 13:46

I got my Summer book yesterday. Only had a quick look through. Been really disappointed recently.

The things I do tend to buy from them are ocassionally pumps and definitely linen trousers.

Rannaldini · 11/03/2011 13:48

why is next in s&b???

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/03/2011 13:50

I think Next clothes are hideous. They are not even very good for cheap basics - Tesco and Asda have a better selection of similar stuff for half the price.

Their work clothing is a joke - polyester pinstripe suits which look 20 years out of date.

Just so frumpy and meh. We have Next discount store near here, it is got to be one of the most depressing shops ever.

However, their skinny jeans for £25 are good - a good stretch and they last years.

mippy · 11/03/2011 17:06

They're one of the few places to do shoes in a 9 (though all their brogues appear to be plastic) and as they do a lot of petite/tall/plus size ranges they probably fit a niche for people on the high street.

LolaLadybird · 12/03/2011 07:37

I bought some jeans before Christmas which were just nicely snug when purchased and had stretched into something that looked a size too big within 3 wears.

As for children, the little girls section has some lovely stuff but DD is now 5 and in 'older girls' and most of it's cheap-looking and way too adult.

Did buy some lovely stuff for DS' room when we re-decorated though ...

bamboobutton · 12/03/2011 07:49

next is rubbish in both design and quality.

i bought two pairs of jeans and both of them went really baggy after one wash and fall down now.

also when i am rummaging in the laundry basket i can tell which are the next jeans as they feel really thin and flimsy compared to other jeans i have.

never shopping there again but i only go there in desperation so it won't be a hardship.

sahminspain · 12/03/2011 08:30

To be honest I have some Next boyfriend jeans and some Primark ones and I cannot tell them apart.

QueeferSutherland · 12/03/2011 09:52

The quality is utterly, utterly shite these days.

The last few things I have bought in there have died within a couple of wears. Holes where the material is so thin or buttons that fall off immediately.

I'd rather go to Primarni. At least they are a bit more "fashion-forward".

I do have some of their jeans though as a post-partum stop-gap.

cabbageroses · 12/03/2011 10:12

Ghastly. I am old enough to remember when Next had clothes you coveted- lovely knitwear and quality fabrics. Catalogues with fabric swatches in. Now it's pretty much Primark quality.
