Can some stylish person put me right on tights?

I wear dark opaque tights for work in the winter. And in the height of summer I go bare-legged if I'm wearing a skirt or dress. But what am I supposed to do in the awkward spring period: too cold for bare legs, dark opaque tights just seem wrong in spring, and I keep reading that nude tights are a big style no-no .

Any ideas? I need to dress fairly conservatively for work, so zany coloured opaques are pretty much out.

I wear lighter weight dark tights, so I wear 40/60 denier in winter then 20/30 in spring. Though I frequently get them muddled up in my drawer and have to change them. Or nude tights...don't know what's wrong with them!

Thanks sparkly. I don't really know what's wrong with nude tights either, but I keep reading snide comments by fashion editors in the weekend newspapers suggesting it's really not the done thing! Just having a tough time trying to work out what the alternative is. 20 denier almost certainly better than 60 denier for the spring though!

Lacy/fishnetty type tights are my saviour at that time of year. I don't like wearing sheer tights, but like the sheerer black tights that have a pattern on them (diamonds, etc). I have also just bought some thin cream patterned tights for spring too, as I wear a lot of monocrome that these will go with.

Hmm, well if the mumsnet consensus is that nude tights are fine, that could be problem solved!

Cream patterned tights sound interesting Elemental - will look into that too.

Nude tights are fine IMO but are subject to a lot of fashion snobbery! I like nude fishnets personally.
