Please dress me for the London Marathon

..as a supporter, not participant, that is!

DH is doing the London marathon in 5 weeks. As his wife and supporter I will of course need to look glamorous in all the photos Wink.

However the problem is, I have to wear the white t-shirt of the charity he is running for (Tommy's) which is not the kind of thing I would normally wear- I dont even own any t-shirts. I am a barrel apple shape so I live in dresses and skirts and never wear jeans as if they fit on the waist, they are far too baggy on the legs and bum. also things above the knee suit my best as I have nice legs but am only 5ft 1.

Shoe-wise it will need to be flats as I'll be on my feet all day, and will need a jacket/cardigan of some kind I imagine as it may be chilly especially first thing.

What can I wear that is practical and won't make me look like a bag lady?

TIA

Having supported my DH at the marathon, I just wanted to advise you to make sure you wear sunscreen and take some spare for your DH!

Even if it starts out as a cold/chilly day, that time of year can be tricky. I've spectated at some marathons that have been cool/drizzly but also been at at least a couple of others where other spectators and runners got bad sunburn - the sun can be very deceptive.

So, a hat and sunglasses also recommended! As well as the gloves.

And a comfy backpack. With a balloon or flag attached so your DH can see you easily.

Ditch the glamour, you are going to get cold, hot and sweaty (on the tube). You can always crop you out of the photos. Or do as I do - make sure you're the one behind the camera.

P.S. Good Luck MrAWorryingTrend!

I second the denim mini suggestion - also wear a long-sleeved t under the t-shirt, this tends to make it look a bit less "t-shirty"

A nice scarf too?

Thanks everyone! Thats a great idea about the denim mini with flat boots- will go for that. Will need to try on t-shirt again to see if I can get a long sleeved top underneath without looking too bulky.

Thats is a fantastic idea about a balloon on my bag so DH can spot me- thank you. Sounds like i'll need a big bag to be prepared for all weathers from snow to sunburn- better to be prepared though!

If the top underneath doesn't work, maybe you could belt the t-shirt to make it more fitted?
