Tis a bit early but what does one wear to Wimbledon?

Title says it all really. DH gave me Wimbledon tickets for my birthday so DS and I are off to Court One on the Wednesday of the first week. It's one of the Keith Prowse Experience packages so there's a buffet lunch prior to the tennis. So, what lovely but wearable again outfit can I buy Grin?

Thanks!

I think anything goes to be honest with you....probably a nice summery dress depending on the weather, and make sure you have lots of sun tan lotion, sunglasses, hat (since they built that roof doesn't seem to rain during wimbledon anymore...!) but take an umbrella and something waterproof too just in case! V jealous I love wimbledon.

Anything goes, pretty much. No need to dress up - even for the hospitality events like this one. I would suggest:

  1. maxi dress
  2. A-line skirt and tee, strappy sandals.
  3. Ankle skimming crops and a gorgeous top.

Yes to hat (although I don't because I always get too hot wearing one), sunglasses and plenty of sun lotion.

You lucky thing!

I've been a few times and tend to stick to the tried-and-trusted formula of some linen trousers (yes, they will crease when you sit down) and a top, possibly a jacket or cardigan depending on the weather.

Take a small umbrella in your handbag or run to buy one in the shop (before they sell out) if the weather is dodgy.

Find out where your seats are, as they may be in the shade, but definitely sunglasses and sun lotion.

Dh and I are going this year for the first time! From what I've seen, and know about the English weather, the only way to go is layers!

It's a long day, so by 8pm I know I'll be wilting,a nd probably freezing so am planning lots of extra layers.

Agree that a hat is a must, as are oversized sunglasses and wet weather gear as well....

Millie1 · 08/03/2011 11:16

Great suggestions thanks! Nice cropped trousers, top and carry with wet weather gear tucked away in suitcase handbag or maxi dress really appeals! Wouldn't have thought about hat, sunnies and suncream - esp important for DS1. Am really looking forward to it, I've always wanted to go!

It gets really cold in the evening, even after hot days, so take jumpers.

Gingefringe · 08/03/2011 20:53

We went last year for the first time and although 'anything goes' it does look nice to see people dressed up a bit.
I wore a navy linen White Stuff dress with a short cardigan and a vest top underneath. Although it was a boiling hot day we were in the shade so take a light shawl/pashmina with you as well as sunnies/sun cream etc.
Have a lovely day. I'm so envious.

Millie - glad you liked the suggestions. I have been lucky enough to have been 4 times - the last 3 with Centre Court tickets. It really is a great day so relax about your outfit because there will be all kinds of outfits on display :). Just dont forget your camera!

Not sure if we are going this year but fingers crossed........

Wear flat shoes, or at least wedges. You will walk a surprisingly long way getting to and from the hospitality tents, the stalls, and the courts.

Take a big bag with every kind of weather gear you can imagine - the usual hot weather stuff but also a chunky sweater you would normally only ever wear in winter. Something about Wimbledon makes it the coldest place in the world on a wet and miserable day.

Take a large golf umbrella - the fold up handbag kind will drip onto the people sitting next to you, whereas large umbrellas overlap cover (truly this is something you will only learn at Wimbledon). Take an umbrella even if the forecast is relentless sunshine.

Take your camera (but don't use it during play). Take plenty of mags, reading matter etc in case play is delayed.

Oh great, more tips! Thanks! Glad you mentioned about how cold it can get - I hate feeling cold and end up with numb fingers very quickly. Layers really are the way to go then!
