Dr Nick Lowe super serum

Has anyone used this? It gets a really good review in a magazine this month but it's £25 and I don't want to get sucked into buying something that will actually not make me look like a goddess Grin.

Fancy treating myself as I still have some Christmas money tucked away, but wondered if anyone can tell me if it's worth my cash. Thank you.

bump
I have seen the review in mag and was also tempted. Watching with interest!

BlackSwan · 06/03/2011 15:28

Just another dermo cashing in on beauty products. Seriously has any other Dr in London got so much hype from Tatler? (I'm guessing it was Tatler) Buyer beware.

silverboy · 06/03/2011 15:29

I have two sisters who use it, they think it is great. They usually buy it when Boots has special offers or with the boots points,

Jewelsandgems · 06/03/2011 17:29

Ive used the supercharged day creme and was not impressed. But I'd be interested to see if this serum was any good :)

iknowanoldlady · 06/03/2011 18:19

It was in Look magazine actually.... bought as it was down to a pound. Not worth a pound though, in retrospect! Boots have 3 for 2 offer on at mo, but that would still be a £50 spend which is sizeable for me....

Don't buy 3 of them if you've never tried it! I love this range, but haven't tried the serum.

BlackSwan · 08/03/2011 06:05

OP - well he must be paying more than one mag to tout his stuff. Tatler are always promoting his services - though it's not clear it's advertising. Think he sees himself as another Dr Sebagh or Dr Perricone. He's not.

wellwisher · 08/03/2011 15:02

BlackSwan have you been to Dr Lowe?

BlackSwan · 08/03/2011 17:31

wellwisher · 08/03/2011 19:44
Hmm
carat · 08/03/2011 20:44

Ooh, Black Swan, dish the dirt!

TragicallyHip · 08/03/2011 20:48

I bought something from his range a few years ago and it didn't do anything for me. Can't remember what it was tho..

wendihouse22 · 08/03/2011 20:51

I've had this serum. It didn't do anything for me but was a lovely smooth product.

I've been using the Olay Regenerist 3 Point Serum (NOT the 3 Point Cream) for several months now. Get it on Ebay at around £15 and find it's really excellent. I can see a difference in my skin, I don't look as tired and....you don't need a separate eye cream. Lovely stuff and I will definitely buy again. I personally wouldn't buy the Dr Lowe stuff again.

Invisiblesoul · 08/03/2011 20:54

Clarins is fab. Have you tried them?

Buda · 08/03/2011 20:56

I have used a few of his products but they didn't do much for me. I bought his travel/starter kit a couple of times and the eye serum.

wellwisher · 08/03/2011 22:09

Black Swan, I was asking because Dr Lowe has in fact been my dermatologist for years (my mum goes to him too!) and I think he's excellent, so I was wondering if you'd had a bad experience or something. There's no need to be all mysterious - but if all you've got to go on is positive press coverage, it's a bit off to disparage his work. Hmm

Anyway, I use his super-charged SPF 15 day cream, night recovery cream and spot gel and think they are great (the spot stuff in particular is magic) - and I worked in the beauty industry for years so I've tried just about everything. Have recently recommended the day cream to a friend who also loved it. The range certainly isn't intended to compete with Perricone, Sebagh etc - it's less than half the price of those! It's a premium mass market range, competing with L'Oreal, Olay, No7 etc.

BlackSwan · 09/03/2011 08:36

Good for you wellwisher, you've had a great experience. I'm not saying any more.

thomasbodley · 09/03/2011 08:45

I didn't have a bad experience with Dr Lowe and the Cranley Clinic, but I'm with BlackSwan: my own treatment (for adult acne) was fairly ineffectual and very expensive, and whilst the derms were pleasant enough, I wasn't impressed by either of them. Also, most of the treatments are performed by nurses - but charged as if they were performed by a doctor. I certainly wouldn't recommend Dr Lowe or his colleague Dr Maxwell above any other dermatologists I've seen. In the end, it was the aspirin mask (look it up on Makeupalley.com) that fixed my skin...for pennies.

If I'd had something seriously wrong with my skin, I'd only see someone with an established NHS practice.

I work in the media - it's very easy to get the ear of glossy magazines and it doesn't mean the people featured within their pages are particularly good at their jobs Wink.

wellwisher · 09/03/2011 09:04

Well, they do say if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything... :)

Thomasbodley, Dr Maxwell left the London clinic quite a long time ago. I mostly go there for Botox, which Dr Lowe does himself. Agree about PR coverage though - I never take any notice of magazine reviews.

Sedgewick · 27/09/2015 17:05

Well...no, wellwisher. If someone has had an experience with Dr Nicholas Lowe or at his clinic and felt disappointed, then it is a big kindness to share that with us so we don't have the same experience. I'm very grateful and hope that mumsnet is full of candour. We have to look out for each other!

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 27/09/2015 17:43

Dunno about any of these doctors but a universally (well, MN) acclaimed serum these days is Hylamide subQ.

woodhill · 27/09/2015 17:51

I used some of his products, day cream, night cream and eye serum. I liked them

Kennington · 27/09/2015 17:59

What are the top 7-10 ingrediants?
That will give you an idea
Glycerin is in loads of anti aging serums but it is cheap
I think looking out for some retinol, hyluronic acid, niaciamide on top of some glycerin is apparently the way to go. They all need to be high up the list.
Plus avoiding mineral oil / paraffinum liquidum as it is cheap and can aggravate some skin types.
btw ingrediants are an interest but I am not an expert.
