What the frig to wear to an 'informal 'interview?

Its on tuesday...& I'm scared as have been at home for the past year with DCs.

So, partly the mahoosive clothes crisis I'm having is due to my shaky confidence..but is also linked to having been mainly covered in baby sick/food, for some time.

We have no spare cash for me to shop pre interview, so I'll have to make something work from my wardrobe...with maybe a super cheap addition from somewhere.

But what do you wear to an 'informal' interview, anyway??I work in a profession which tends to be smart/casual..but have totally lost my touch/confidence...so any tips or ideas would be much appreciated.

I'd check out charity shops too - you can get some fab stuff there.

What sort of shape are you, and what sort of clothes do you have in your wardrobe?

Well...I'm around 5'7'', and generally my top half is size 12, and for skirts/trousers I'm a 14...am knid of curvy, but not feeling too bad about it since re-joining the gym!

So, have quite slight shoulders, but am failry bootylicious at present!

Erm..my wardrobe. Bit of a mix really. Tend to live in skinny jeans/boots/jumpers or dress over jeans at the mo...but I realise I am definatley lacking in creativity at this point in my life!I do love a good frock, and have tended to veer towards vintage type looks...love converse/floral blouses/ dresses.

For work I used to wear a mix of stuff, but people really knew me there & we all were comfotable to dress how we wanted to generally.

Have one pair of smart-ish black trousers that still fit, and also some more casual loose leg wool trousers...does that sound like I could wear that? But what with?

Also am rubbish in heels, althugh I think they look great. But I do have an obscene amount of good selection of flat boots.Grin

If you get chance tomorrow =- I know it depends how far away the place is and you might not get there - go to the place, even if it means hanging round outside and see what sort of clothes the other employees wear to give you some sort of clothes direction.

Hmmm..thanks upahill...I'll be the strange lurker streaked with baby food loitering.Wink

I mean, how informal is informal, IYSWIM?

For informal times I tend to wear
a dress and stiltoe boots,
Wide leg black trousers - You can get them for £20 from Next with a vest top and cardi.

Same trousers with a collarless jacket,

Very dark nice jeans with a decent top and smart coat.

Most of these things you will find in Asda, Primark, tesco etc or you will have stuff in you wardrobe that if you add a nice jacket or some heels will look totally different to how you normaly wear it IYSWIM!!

Good luck!

Thanks!

I think it may be the shoe thing that I'm doing wrong...could you recomend a good pair of fairly comfy, cheap heels for the novice heel wearer?!

And, would you say that heeled boots would be better for this type of thing than heeled shoes?

i would wear a dress with flat boots i think, even if the dress code is more casual than that i always think you should make an effort for an interview however informal....

Informal to me just means that it will be a chat rather than a formal interview, often (if they like you) with the interview next. I'd wear the same clothes as I would to an interview, so if you have smart clothes from before children then (assuming they still fit) I'd go with them. So a suit or smart skirt with a jacket. Either would be fine with nice boots.

Unless it's a world that disapproves of the suited look then I think it's generally better to be too smart than not smart enough. I had one of these for my current job and ended up meeting a Vice President who was wearing jeans, but I was still glad to have dressed up because I find it puts me in the right frame of mind (in the zone as it were).
