High street sizing V's Designer sizing. An observation, which isn't that suprising really.

Our TK Maxx had some Calvin Klein dresses in last week so the fashion victim that I am I had to try them on.

It turns out that while I am a high street size 10 (sometimes size 12) I can fit into a designer size 6 pretty easily Hmm. (which is an American size 2!). I will admit I am a skinny bookmark but never realised there was such a difference between cheap stuff and the good stuff.

(I didn't buy the dress either, even though it was gorgeous ('only' £50) and made me feel like a grown up Sad. I decided to be sensible and save my pennies as I need to spruce the house up this spring).

I'm surprised, I thought it would be the other way round, with designer stuff coming up smaller than high street.

mollymole · 03/03/2011 20:44

the calvin klein stuff is is 'american' sizing
i.e. american 6 is our size 10
american 8 is our size 12
i have had a good few bargains from t k maxx this way as people don't seem to try them on when they see size 6

NettoSuperstar · 03/03/2011 20:48

I fit in to an age 12 dress in M&Co yesterday.
I am not 12.
I didn't buy it, as I'm not sure dresses are me-it was in the sale for £6.

Meglet · 03/03/2011 21:02

molly the size 6 had an american size 2 label sewn into it. The price tag had size 6 on it with the British price.

Unless they were in size TK maxx for duff sizing labels Hmm.

A CK dress for 50 quid!

It looked gorgeous!
It fitted and you didn't buy it

(faints!!!)

RipMacWinkle · 03/03/2011 21:11

When I've tried on CK in our local TK Maxx I thought it was pretty true to size once you convert US to UK sizing.

Meglet · 03/03/2011 21:18

upahill I was in a weirdly sensible mood. If there's one left in the shop tomorrow it will be a sign that I have to buy it Grin. (there won't be any left)

RipMacWinkle · 03/03/2011 21:23

Was it a grey or black "formal" style?

Sorry don't know how best to describe it, shift dress?

If so, they have those in our local one quite often so you might still get one another time.

Enabler Rip Grin

It was army green, sort of a shift with ruffly bits at the shoulders / top of the arms. Nice deep pockets too.

Rip If my dc's have to starve for the next few weeks because I have bought the dress I will send them round to your house for dinner Wink.
