Can we talk frown lines?

1234ThumbWar · 02/03/2011 10:32

I'm growing out a fringe that has been hiding the two huge crevices that are my frown lines. The fringe has to go, so how do I get rid of the lines?

Has anyone tried frownies? Do they actually work?
Someone mentioned facial exercises the other day, does anyone have any experience of them working?
What abou any products?
What about bottox or fillers? My dh is dead against it, but it's my face after all.

Botox will relax them.

Facial exercises I just can't see working. All you are doing is breaking down even more collagen. Its like the opposite to botox!

Or learn to love it...its fun to scare people in the street, I find.

No really I've had Botox so I am a hypocryte (though its worn off at the moment and I am "au natural", as I've been on antibiotics for 2 months so I couldn't have it done).

watching with interest...
what are frownies?

janinlondon · 02/03/2011 13:20

I've had botox but they can't get it to work on my frown lines (and really, honestly, they are not like the Grand Canyon - I just seem to have resistant muscles or something). Frownies do work for about three or four hours after you take them off. I have been using for about two years now and I do think they make a cumulative difference- the lines don't go away completely but they do become less pronounced.

I have tried both and frownies give a temporary slight improvement where as a light botox is amazing! Coupled with semi permanent lashes I have been make up free for ages now and can't imagine going back and I am 45 nearly 46

Noddy I wondered how well the botox works on frown lines, they are quite deep so feel like they need pollyfiller! Do you mind if I ask how much it cost?

I think I'm going to try frownies, I've seen them on eBay for about £13 so it's worth a try even for a small difference.

I think frownies kind of fool you as soon as you have had them off for an hour or 2 you are back to square one.the botox was £200( for one area and then £40 for any further areas) and works really well if the lines are caused by constant repetitive movement like frowning and grimacing or in my case squinting due to not wearing my glasses Blush!

TricityBendixx · 02/03/2011 13:53

are you talking horizontal lines across your forehead or two vertical lines between the eyebrows (as i have - makes me look cross and grumpy even when i'm not - most annoying (am frowning as i contemplate it gah!))

1234ThumbWar · 02/03/2011 14:05

Vertical lines Tricity - I look very grumpy.

If you do go with the botox, see if you can get a written guarantee that if it doesn't work you get your money back. Because it is quite expensive.....!

noddyholder · 02/03/2011 15:00

I had the horizontal lines done

willybreeder · 02/03/2011 16:12

I was recommended to have a filler put in my vertical line and I'm going to go for it soon. Tried Botox a few years ago, it was good and could still move my forehead

mousymouse · 02/03/2011 16:16

do you need glasses?
I found that my frown lines got much less noticable once I started wearing glasses. not beeing able to see properly made me frown.

I dont think anything will remove frown lines forever all we can do isntry to minimise. I found this new blog site that is full of good advice and talks about skin rejuvenation therapies www.therapeutix-beauty.com you should take a look. There is a bit on there about microdermabrasion and skin needling.

BlackSwan · 03/03/2011 07:31

StriVectin cream is pretty good though not everyone gets results. Non-invasive, a little smelly & the cream is a bit heavy. It was originally formulated as a stretch-mark cream.

topsi · 03/03/2011 08:02

Botox is best, nothing else will do the job as well!

noddyholder · 03/03/2011 08:05

Agree with topsi nothing else works! I tried them all.Spent fortunes on creams stickers etc but it was only a temporary slight difference with frownies and no cream ever did anything for lines Although I rubbed so many in over time the rest of my face looked great! If you want the lines gone and to not have to think about it at all it is botox or nothing.

BlackSwan · 03/03/2011 08:09

If you're talking about deep lines then I'm sure you're right about botox. But if you catch the problem early, perhaps cream can work well.

On the other hand...Botox just prevents you from being able to frown, right? So then you don't develop lines. Can't we train ourselves not to frown?

noddyholder · 03/03/2011 08:11

I tried strivectin. My frown lines weren't that deep according to the doctor who did the botox so I had a very small amount. But to me they were and I was a bit focussed on them. The difference is amazing as because I don't look so tired I don't feel it either!I tried to train myself not to frown with teh stick ons but you would have to wear tehm 24/7 to get results
