I've bought this Mint Velvet tunic

Based on various recommendations about Mint Velvet, I bought this today.

I'm going to a friend's party on Saturday, haven't seen lots of people there for a couple of years.

I'm normally quite a conventional Boden/White Stuff/Kew uniform kind of girl so this is definitely outside my comfort zone (tragic I know).

I'm planning on wearing it with grey leggings and black boots.

What else? Accessories? I don't actually have any. I'm going to have to put my Parka on over the top as I don't actually have a more appropriate coat Blush

I wouldn't do grey leggings and black boots tbh.
Too matchy matchy.

I'be be thinking brighly coloured clunky platforms and some big chunky beads or bangles/cuffs. Not both.

Do not wear the bloody parka!

fruitstick · 01/03/2011 22:44

OK, help me out here - I really don't get out much!

What else would you wear? I'm a size 16.

I don't have bright clunky platforms, I have high black boots, fit flop boots or dainty heels.

I have grey leggings or black leggings.

I need to do more shopping don't I!

Ok, the leggings will do but you do need a pair of shoes.
I haven't been shopping for ages but on trip to buy things for kids, noted lots of fab cork soled platforms. Debenhams had some nice ones for example.

This month's Red has some good stuff in it about bright colours.

Jazz that tunic up and I reckon you will look great.

Hi there.

I totally agree with Moondog-black knee high boots is a no no if you are looking to impress.

You gotta dress it up- I would get a pewter (dark silver grey) coloured thick waisted belt to show of your curves and shoes to match the belt. Next, river island asos does brilliant accessories and reasonably priced too.

If you have to wear boots, it would suggest some cool black shoeboots, thick black tights and black accessories.

mamatomany · 01/03/2011 23:10

I wouldn't tbh it's going to make you look bigger than you are, size 8/10 can get away with things like that, floaty silky materials.
A size 16 needs fitted thicker materials which will not cling but skim the body.

bristolcities · 01/03/2011 23:14

Dark slim or stright fitting jeans and flats.

bristolcities · 01/03/2011 23:14

Actually moccasins would look great.

fruitstick · 01/03/2011 23:24

Actually Mama, it does fit quite well. Not too floaty and has a nice cut. I'm very wary about looking like a sack of spuds usually Grin

I'm working for the rest of the week and nowhere near shops. Can someone point me to some shoes online that deliver?

asos.co.uk. Free delivery and free returns, very good prices.

brimfull · 01/03/2011 23:38

I think the shoes the model is wearing look great with it , how about these from next

TerrorFirmer · 02/03/2011 08:54

I think it's gorgeous and would really flatter a 16. Totally agree about bright chunky shoes. bit like this? I'm a 16 and dainty shoes make everything above them look bigger.

And don't worry about the parka, just take it off before you get to the front door Wink

MilliONaire · 02/03/2011 11:54

I agree with ggirl, I think the styling on the model is lovely - simple, elegant and stylish, just the right note for a party/get together. You don't want to spend all night worrying about wearing gigantic clumpy, ugly platforms if they are not your usual style Grin Kurt Geiger have some lovely wedge desert boots similar to the ones in the picture.

Enjoy the night - oh and def don't put a belt with that lovely tunic, it would ruin the lovely lines of it!!

bristolcities · 02/03/2011 12:06

these from newlook are almost exactly the same, I tried them on last night and they are very comfortable!

Lavish1981 · 02/03/2011 21:55

i think it will look like a sack without a belt and defo make u look square...
