Deeply challenged - what can my baby son wear to his uncle's wedding?

I'm trying to find some ideas an outfit for my son to wear to his uncle's wedding.
We are bog standard guests and the wedding is in Scotland in early June, when my wee boy will be 8 months old.

I really don't like mini tuxedos or suits. We did think about a little kilt and a ghilie shirt but he's so small I think it might end up looking like tartan tutu, has any one tried this, did it look good?

Really I'm looking for something in which he'll look both smart and like the lovely little baby he is - any ideas?

He can wear anything he likes, he is a baby.

Pirate outfit? Kaftan a la Demis Roussos [sp?]? Wig?

Honestly, just buy him something that's fairly smart and people will just coo over him. It'll only get covered in dribble anyway Grin. Hope you all have a lovely time.

Whatever he wears, make sure you have a spare outfit with you Grin

I second Trillian, I'll bet he is gorgeous in anything. Can you go retro with a romper? I like those slightly sailorish ones - navy britches and a white top part. You can probably find one in one of those little independent baby stores.

Failing which have a look at these - all-white may not be all that practical for his stage (will he be crawling?) but I bet he'll look cute. The one with the hat mght be the business if you are going to be outside ... will keep the sun off his wee head but also be very smart.

What about a sailor suit?

tethersend · 01/03/2011 20:57

Totally missed your post there, cruella Grin

Just a cute, vintage-y romper I reckon. Not a huge fan of little suity outfits on babies.

tethersend · 01/03/2011 21:24

This sort of thing, Ninky?

Itchywoolyjumper · 02/03/2011 06:39

Thanks folks, the romper suits are a really nice idea.
I'm not sure if it would fly at the wedding but I'm loving the idea of him in a pirate outfit and wig, I've been chuckling away to myself for quite some time thinking about it :)

Oooh, I haven't seen Zara baby clothes before Tethers, you might have just been responsible for my breaking my sale/second hand only rule for DD...

This is nice, perhaps with something like

trousers

Depending on where you are going in Scotland it can be quite cool, even in summer. My Southern relatives can be taken aback about how cold it seems here compared to London. If you do go for a romper suit type of thing I'd also make sure you have plenty of cardigans or jackets to go with it. On the other hand, you may be lucky and get a really hot day. Layers are probably the way to go.

Another slightly more casual option may be to buy a smart pair of dungarees with a bodysuit underneath that has a collar. I've done that in the past with a nice pair of baby blue dungarees from John Lewis. It looked smart enough but was also something he got a lot of wear from afterwards.

If you want to get a kilt I'd have a look on e bay. I got one for DS1 when he was 18 months. It's not a proper kilt as it has an elastic waist band but looked very smart regardless with a white shirt and bow tie. You can get kids bow ties from e bay for a few pounds. THey fasten with velcro at the back so there isn't a choking risk.

Have fun!

I'm pretty sure Emile et Rose sell clothes in our local John Lewis. THey have lovely outfits for babies.
