Jeans and t-shirt type top in case you have to go in and rescue/sort someone! If you look fancy people might think you don't look like you are going to cope with such a party IMO but most important of all wear a smile!

I agree with rey but there are a couple of things you can add to jeans and a t-shirt to make your look more pulled together.

You could add either a little cardigan or a scalf or a couple of bits of jewellery. There is a mum at our school who alwears wears with her jeans and t shirt a cardigan and pearl studs and I always think she looks chic!

An eye patch and parrot on your shoulder.

ValiumSingleton · 01/03/2011 16:38

Jeans and a t-shirt!

BUT, your nicest jeans that flatter you. A t-shirt that has a good cut and is a flattering colour. Freshly blowdried hair, 'natural make-up'. You get the gist. Look as good as you possibly can whilst seeming to have made no effort. It's what the 150 odd mums at my dc's school all do. no, I tell a lie there are a few that genuinely make no effort. That's when you see how much effort the no effort look requires. I rambled here. Happy birthday to your son!

Agree with jeans and teeshirt.

Or, if you really want to look a bit more like you are wearing an "outfit" then how about a tunic layered over a cami/long sleeve tee and skinny jeans with ballet flats or converse?

Big yes also to blow dried hair and natural looking make up.

Please don't be tempted to venture into anything other than these. It's been ages since I have been to a soft play place but was always a bit Judgey MacJudgeypants when I saw women dressed up to the nines and attempting to rescue toddlers whilst wearing 4 inch heels!

Yes, absolutely agree - quite a while since I hosted and attended these events, but definitely think valium and tulpe's suggestions are the way to go - I too was very unimpressed by the obvious 'tryhard' look. Subtle casual but groomed much better.

overmydeadbody · 01/03/2011 17:30

I think you should dress up as a pirate actually. You could pull off the look with boots, jeans, a white flowing shirt, a vest, lots of jewelery and a scarf tied on your head. And don't forget the patch and a few tatoos.

QueeferSutherland · 01/03/2011 22:46

Remember to wear socks and easily-take-off-able shoes for when you have to rescue a child from the slide.

Chunky jewelry, nothing too precious.

I'd wear a tunic with jeans and slip-on boots or converse.

Tunic style top, leggings/skinny jeans, ballet pumps or ankle boots (but agree they should be easy to put on/take off)

Def agree with subtle groomed lookSmile
