Dd is 10 and the ultimate tomboy. She lives in tracksuits and trainers and loves climbing tree's and plays football for out local club. She hates hates hates anything girlie especially wearing dresses!

I am having a 30th birthday party in a couple of weeks and the dress code is sort of cocktail. I've told her if she wants to come she has to dress up like everyone else - she asked if she can wear a suit Hmm

I've told her it doesn't have to be a dress BUT it DOES have to be something NICE!!!!!

Can anyone help me find something she might like? She can fit into a size 6 in some things adults things.

Oh, good idea. Sort of a child version of Cabaret (without the fishnets) :o

Either that or the nautical look with blazer.

Would she wear sparkly higtops? Jazz it up a bit?

can you link me to a pair of these high tops? I'm not sure what they are!

Got a book - your dd's style sounds like something my dd would like. Can you tell me where you got the bits from and any links if available. I'd love to show it to her and see what she thinks.

I bought them for DD in Next last year, but they don't have them on the website now.

They looked like normal Converse, but covered in sequins. DD loved them and wore them till they fell to bits.

M and S have some lovely glittery high tops here

sweetheart · 02/03/2011 13:17

hmm ok - she will probably go for those but I think they are horrible! Maybe those with some shorts / blazer combo will look cool!?!!?!

I will show them to her later and report back - thanks!

I wonder if I might be able to convince her on a sequin waitcoat? www.marksandspencer.com/Girls-Limited-Linen-Sequin-Waistcoat/dp/B004M6ZZSA?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_58&nodeId=492182031&sr=1-58&qid=1299072376

Oh, they are perfect. Going to order them for DD. She loved them last year. I liked them cause she could wear them with something pretty but still run and climb in them.

The waistcoat is nice, if teamed with plain tshirt and trousers.

Gotabookaboutit · 02/03/2011 16:47

The shorts were last years next - they have some on ebay no 170609164357 - in 9yrs old. the shirt and waist coat were from a little shop that has now closed but again I would try ebay.

MmeLindt - it did look very Cabaret to be honest lol - She is very slim with long legs so it looked very trendy without setting off her pink and fluffy radar.

Got to get those boots !

Hi Ladies,
Just wanted to say thanks for your help and update. We went shopping on Saturday and managed to get dd an outfit that:-

  1. she likes
  2. I like
  3. she will probably wear again

SUCCESS!

She's wearing white skinny jeans with little denim ballet pumps. A blue and white stripped top with a wide elasticated band at the bottom and this blazer www.zara.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/uk/en/zara-S2011/61182/297006/DENIM%2BBLAZER%2BWITH%2BELBOW%2BPATCHES
